Hi Guys,

I was thinking about purchasing (and everyday carrying/using) a Laguiole Elite: Prestigue Series - Ebony 12 cm as is shown at the below link:

Laguiole Elite 12cm Ebony Black

I was told it was supplied with a nice leather belt sheath which interestingly mounts at a 45 Deg. Angle on your belt. Do you think this knife is too big to be comfortably worn for everyday use? I currently carry a folding buck in a 5" leather sheath.

I wear my current junk knife everyday... even like to eat with it at times. (I like the old French custom of eating with your own pocket knife. Cool.) Anyway, would be happy to get some input on this question. Also, any reviews on buying from this concern in Quebec (seems like the premier web dealer for Laguiole products in N.A.:

Kind Regards,

Mic

Welcome to bladeforums! :)

Both the knife and the company have a great reputation. Whether the 12 cm blade is too big depends on your local law and your personal preference. 12 cm is almost 4 3/4 ". Looks good to me but it is definitely a large folding knife. :D

Great knife and a 12cm handle and 9.5cm blade make it just about the perfect size for all around use.

I guess it depends on how you dress.

I often carry a 11 cm Laguiole in the same pocket as my wallet when I wear jeans. I hardly notice it, and sometimes I even forget that it's there. You might want to take this with a grain of salt though, since I also regularly carry a Military and LCC, and I have no problem with the carryability of either knife.

I actually ordered my Laguiole through Laguiole Elite. Great service, and I had my knife a week after I ordered it. Sandvik 12c27 is a very good steel, and while it may dull faster than the "super steels," it takes a great edge.

The laguiole is a great old design. Size depends on your personal preference and local laws. While I don't have any personal experience with this particular brand, it does seem to have a good reputation.

i recently ordered one and ive found its hard as all get out to open and close, is this just a flaw in manufacture or is it the design of the knife itself im not sure

They are known to have a beefy backspring. It'll probably loosen up after a couple of years of regular use.
