Carrying my 110

When I was a younger man I carried my 110 in my right rear pocket next to my wallet in the vertical position. I don't remember it ever falling into the horizontal position. That was a comfortable way to carry a 110 and every pair of jeans I had showed the outline of it whether it was in the pocket or not. Back then I was lean and wore Levi 501's jeans that shrank down to fit ya.
These days I'm not so lean and wear carpenters jeans. They have wider and deeper pockets and are looser fitting. I can't get a 110 to ride vertical in them. It just keeps falling over. A belt sheath doesn't work to well anymore either as I have a bit of a muffin top that fights with the sheath. It's also not very practical for my current work environment.
So that brings me to my current idea. Carrying it loose in the bottom of my front pocket. Not sure if I can stand it or ever get used to the weight/size of it but I am going to give it an honest try. I will start this morning and carry it through Sunday evening then decide if I want to continue or if it was just a bone head idea.
If anybody has any tips or thoughts on front pocket 110 carry I would like to hear them. Also would be curious to know how many others do this if any.
Wish me luck.

Jim

I'm not a fan of having anything hanging from my belt either. But I've tried carrying a 110 in the front pocket and it's too heavy for me.
I've seen a few knife sheaths that clip inside the pocket, but never found anything big enough for a 110.

There is a place where you can get leather pocket sheaths. I'm not sure if they are a sponser on here or not. I will try to find out and if they are I will give you a link. The 110 does fit in some of these sheaths. I have a couple for small fixed blades and one that will carry a small fixed blade and a folder. The 110 does in fact fit that one. I don't carry it like that often but I have before.

Another option might be a horizontal sheath. I'll have to check but I think the nylon 110 sheath can be used for horizontal carry though the belt might need to narrow like a dress belt to work.

I don't about new nylon sheaths but yes my nylon sheath can be horizontal carry.

yep this is the way I carry my 110. I have my Cabeals Alaska 110 on now rides real nice

You may have pm'd me about this but I can't remember so I'll post it anyway...

This is how I carry mine, it has a deep carry pocket clip built into the backside.

Evan I did p.m. you about your sheath and it is a beauty. I would very much like one but really can't afford one at this time. Down the road a ways I might just contact the maker and see about having one made for myself.
I dropped my 110 in my pocket this morning then drove to work. Got to work, walked about halfway across the parking lot and knew the 110 horizontal in my pocket was not going to work. I always carry a bandana in my right rear pocket. I took that bandana that was folded into a square roughly the size of my rear pocket and folded it in half again. Then slipped it in to my left front pocket closest to the seam that runs down the outside of my leg. Slipped the 110 in beside it and it stood up vertical in my pocket. It stayed that way all day and by the end of my work day I didn't even notice the weight anymore.
I am encouraged by my pocket carry experiance today. It went a lot better than I thought it would.

The paperstone versions are a bit lighter and you can get the 186 (think that is the model) with a pocket clip on it. Close to the classic 110 if you want options.

Glad you found something that worked! I tried a few things before getting the sheath made but nothing came close to keeping it upright in my pocket.

Claude may charge less if you just want a plain one with no design or a more basic color. Just something to consider.

evan - That sure is a good looking custom 110 and very nice sheath as well.

Thank you! Maker is Claude Scott, he hangs around the sheath forum here. His fixed blade sheaths are true works of art.

No 110 here, but I do this with my large Sodbuster. Stuck the bandanna back in my rear pocket after switching to a front pocket wallet. The wallet keeps the knife from turning horizontally and keeps it in place almost as well as a clipped folder.

This is one of those things that everyone is glad to hear about how others carry but in the end has to work it out to their own satisfaction. Like many of you over the multiple years I have gone thru many techniques. When I retired I gave up my old Segua scaled112 on my belt. Also carried a 309 in watch pocket. Now in my senile years, with a CWP (sometimes) and phone on me, I have gone to either a small vantage avid in my back pocket clipped next to wallet or to one of leather pouches on lanyards I carry from my belt and hang in my front pocket along pant seam. I am not pushing the method, I just happen to have photos handy so will give some visual entertainment. I carry either a 303 with replaced burl wood scales, a bone scale 55, a old schrade t-29 no clip or a SAK on Sundays for emergency battery and phillips screw repairs. (You know how it is everyone knows your a knife guy and comes to you for fixes.) I am thinking of custom making a 303 or 301 with a Phillips blade in place of the spey.....I screw way more screws than I "spey" stuff........... 300

Hangs down in front pocket. I buy leather pouches and use my boy scouts skill from the pre-Beatles era to make lanyard. Pic of 55. In todays world you guys with para-cord braclets and necklaces could weave one of matching small diameter paracord. You could be a fashion trend setter. I fall more into the Irish Setter world.

I throw this pic in so you can see the 'thin' lanyard. I weave four 35 lb test super braid bass lines together, glue the loops using epoxy. It make a really strong lanyard and is practically 'non-visible' if you desire such. Which I do.

kyhunt, thanks for the link. They do look to be of good quality. I might give one a try sometime in the future but for now I want to experiment a little.

A horizontal sheath was something I had not considered. I will check around for prices and keep the option in mind. I have a ecolite 110 and while it is a good knife it's just not the same. Or at least I haven't gotten used to it yet. Carrying it would definitely cut down on weight tho so maybe I should give it an honest chance.

The first photo posted by 300Bucks has got me thinking. Something like that might just work for me. I am gonna try to sweet talk my wife into sewing something up for me out of denim this weekend. I have some para-cord around here someplace for a lanyard, wouldn't cost me anything to try it. Interesting. Thanks for posting the pictures 300Bucks and thanks to all who have replied.

i also used to carry a 110 in pairs of 501's , they used to be the only jeans i wore , but that was 20 or more years ago and back when i smoked , i would carry it horizontal next to my pack of smokes in right front pocket , the pack of smokes would keep it in place - can't carry it like this any more, now have to use belt sheath if i even carry a 110 (kind of rare, these days)- but i still carry one sometimes, but anymore about all i can stand in my pocket with my keys and other stuff is a penknife - other larger knives i wear in a sheath , even my 301 stockman
