I use to carry a sak all the time for many years, but it came to my memory that when one handers became popular 13 years ago (started to) that I dropped my sak for a tak fakuta all metal linerlock. well this past week I received the soldier I ordered from swiss express knives and Ive been carrying it ever since. Its nice to carry a small, very handy, knife and not get strange looks. Its light, doesnt print much in the pocket and when I pull it out no one stares. Now being a minister many people scrutinize everything you do, including the cutlery you carry. When I ministered in Arkansas no one thought anything of my one handers (most of them were carrying some kind of knife), but when I moved here to cols, Oh. I got quite a few staers and comments. Not that it really matters, because it doesnt, its just nice to carry something light that doesnt catch an eye (but is very useful!!).

I even find myself wanting a vic. time keeper, I do have one, but its an early one and I'd like to keep it nice. Im thinking about getting a new one to use as I do not like to wear a watch (I tend to look at one if I have it on my wrist, a little too much).
its interesting how the one handers have changed things alot!!

You wear a watch, rev_jch!? Hmm, I wonder where my grandfather got his saying, "that's about as useless as a preacher's watch on Sunday morning."

Just joking, buddy! :D

My Pastor and I have become friends as well as fellow church members. When folks ask if he has a knife his response is always the same: "I'm wearing pants aren't I?".

lol!!!! I actually got rid of the watch year ago!!! did not do me much good to have it on since I wasnt (and do not) let it dictate the hours of my obedience to the Lord's work.

I also did the "tac thing" for awhile but as a pastor I felt self-counscious about my Buck Lightning clipped to my pocket as I was walking around preaching. I still use it some when the time is right. Almost always there will be a small SAK in one pocket and a Buck 303 or some such knife in the other pocket. My wife got me the little SAK years ago but I don't think they make it anymore. It is close to the Classic but has a fourth blade which has a small bottle opener with a flat screwdriver tip. It is so handy I don't like to be without it.
Amen on the time. Vance Havner said, "most churches start as 11:00 sharp and end at 12:00 dull." Eternity, not time, shoul always be in view. Hope you find you Timekeeper.

Kam. thanks for the info!! I have seen them there, but Im looking for the original timekeeper, which is much smaller.

Russell I understand completely what your saying!!! Its kind of funny to me how people have "preconceived notions" of what a minister is suppose to be, look like, ect. I remember when the Lord first called me into ministry I thought that I had to dress, act, like everyone else. Early on though he showed me of my erorr of my thinking. I began to just be "myself" I preached in sometimes in Jeans sometimes dressed up (ect.). Its the message thats important!! not the fashion show!!!
I do outreach/evangelism which causes me to do some traveling. I do bring my folders with me, and I have had comments before. Sometimes we have to be careful and not become "religious" (and think I have to do this) to win God's approval, or those around us (we know theres nothing we can do to please God! thats why we have Jesus!!). Paul the apostle spoke about not putting a "stumbling block" in front our our brother. Now he was speaking about meat and those who will and will not eat it (according to concience). we could somewhat liken that to the subject of carrying pocket knives, but I think that carrying a pocket knife is not an issue (now a gun would be a different story!! I like to hunt , but a Minister carrying a gun???...hmmm) However if it presents less problems, I opt many times to carry something less "eyecatching" (than a tactical folder).
As a minister I just stay faithful to the Lord and do not worry about what I am wearing, appearance (as long as its presentable of course). My wife likes to fun with me as I usually (when its colder)wear a long black leather jacket I have with a black ski hat, I have a gotee so she tells me I look like a burglur...lol!!!! I suppose I probably do, but to some that I do outreach with I fit right in!! I went to a church once to speak and someone in the congregation asked me do you know who's going to speak? I told her "I am" (with the Lord's help of course) and her mouth dropped open. People have these ideas about what we as ministers are suppose to look like, ect. Its interesting though, and wonderful though, how God doesnt see things the way we do!!! He loves diversity!! (AMEN!!!).

Did not Jesus say "do not judge according to appearance, but judge with righteous judgement!!" (Jn 7:24). However wielding around a large tactical folder can raise some eyebrows!!! and I'll try and refrain from that!!!
Heres a suggestion though Russell an avalanche makes a great carry knife , not to threatening, although the speed safe mechanism can cause some raised eyebrows!!! I had some of the youth from my church help me with an outreach project this last summer. I had them attach church invitation cards to some charms blow pops (to hand out in a parade). well we had around 6,000 or so to do and the older kids couldnt keep enough tape cut, so I took out my avalanche and began cutting all the tape I could. the kids thought it waa cool how the knife opened....oops I forgot to use my other hand to "slowly" open
it!!! I wish I had!! it brought too much attention for the ones who saw it). However it looks less threratening. Ken will tell you himself its designed as a utilty knife, not tactical.

As far as preaching I usaully them (rhetorically of course) I hope you dont mind being here for a while? (if need be).Its all about God's timing, not ours. When we put a time on what God can do we'ere missing out on what He has for us. When we'ere obedient to Him, He can do much more with us!!!

last, but not least and most important of all, Its all about God!!! not us!!!!! we'ere just the ventriliquest dummies so to speak!! just like the donkey God used to rebuke balaam!!! we're the dumb donkeys!!!:) He does it all!!!

Rev

There are two knives that you might consider carrying that can be effective but do not look tactical. One is the Victorinox Trailsman, it is a one handed opener with a locking blade, and the other is a Kershaw Rainbow Leek. Even my wife can't complain about those. Check them out. Have fun.

Gary

Thanks gary I appreciate it!!! I do have a leek, and rainbow leek allready. I have been carrying a sak soldier lately!!! :D

I've carried one SAK or another for years as a "back-up" to my EDC knives. The funny thing is that the EDC was really a back-up for my SAK.

Paul

Pwork,
I know what you mean, I recently bought a Victorinox Pioneer which replaced my Hiker model, but my sebenzas are still a back-up to my SAKs.

Jason

Junkyard,
Which Pioneer did you get? I just ordered the one with the small hawkbill blade to replace my Hiker and Rucksack.
And yes, I still carry my Sebenza around too.:)

Paul

I ordered a pioneer from swiss-knife.com a couple weeks ago. I ordered the one with the basic soldier implents, plus the saw, and key ring.

Thanks Gary! this is actually one of the places Im allready looking at, Im still brwosing around right now, thanks again!!

Merry X-mas to you!!!
God Bless you and yours!!!
sincerely, in Christs love, John
