Hi everyone,

I'm new to the forum and tried searching but didn't find the info I was looking for -- if I missed it, my apologies.

I'm looking for waterproof aluminum tubes that are a reasonable size to carry on a carabiner on my belt. I'd like them to be the right size to carry various tinder, like cotton balls/vaseline. Any tips on where to look would be very welcome.

Also, any ideas where to find small leather bags for carrying my fire kit?

Thanks! All input is welcome!

you can make your own out of old "C" cell maglites. Cutt off the maglite behind the switch, and epoxy in a aluminum or plastic plug and your good to go.

Try sealing your vaseline soaked cotton balls in a short length of drinking straw. Melt both ends and it is water tight. Cut one end off when ready to use and tease out a small amount. You can then catch any spark or flame source. they burn at a very controlled rate and can last for several minutes.

Welcome. No idea on the tubes but for the leather bag if you search possibles pouch on ebay you'll find a number of options.

Are you referring to what we often call "spy capsules"? They come in various sizes and colors and can be bought at most drug stores as pill carriers. REI also has them with their keychains and such.

Agreed on the pill capsules. Depends on how much you want to carry. Those pill capsules can be found at lots of gas stations with the keychains, Harbor Freight tools has 2 sizes of them I saw the other day. Lots of places on the net. I keep on a ring with my Going gear striker.

Thanks very much everyone. I really appreciate the info, and can't wait to start some fires. Legal fires, that is!
