A lot of people around here like the Miniquick--and with good reason. The Miniquick is about .45 inches in diameter. The Carson is an inch. The Miniquick weighs 3/4 oz. The Carson weighs 2 oz. The Miniquick carries like a pen and you don't know it's there until you need it. You'll almost certainly be aware of the Carson however you decide to carry it. So even if the optical quality is the same (doubtful) the Miniquick wins because it is so darn easy to carry. All this said, the Minquick is very expensive and the Carson is a measly $23. If I were you, I'd get the Carson and see if I could live with it. If not, it would go in the drawer with all the other things I thought I needed.

You're welcome-- and welcome to the forums. Seeing that you're new here, you may not know about the search function. It can be very useful for questions such as your's. The Miniquick comes up often. Not sure what you'll find concerning the Carson. Even when you get your answers when doing a search, it's still sometime good to ask again in the forums. There's always new people with new experiences. And some of us just like to read about our favorite toys once again. You should be warned, though, hanging out in Gadgets and Gear can get pretty expensive.

I have both. The miniquick is a better product with regards to optical clarity, but I find that I use both quite a bit. I actually bring the Carson on travel as it just packs better in my gear bag, but that is a personal preference.
I am happy with both products, but if I had to pick a winner it is the miniquick.
