Am thinking about getting one of Carson's Model 4 folders and can't decide on the large (4") or small (3") version. Since I don't think there are any examples in my country, it is difficult to see just how big it is.

Does anybody have a picture of of the large Model 4 next to any one of the following?
- MT LCC
- MT SOCOM
- CRKT KFF
- Emerson Commander

Failing that, what about some size comparisons with the some of the mentioned knives?

Thanks
Red

Redvenom, here's a pic of the large Carson Model 4 (T), MT LCC (M), and the medium Carson Model 4 (B). Even tho the large is pretty big, it's an easy carry. I really prefer the medium size. Hope this helps. You'll really like the Carson, no matter what size you get.

redvenom,

Here is a comparison shot of the Carson Mod 4 (Large) with Ti Handles, alongside an Emerson Commander and a Tactical DA Socom.

What are you thoughts now you have seen the pictures that have been posted?

Ed

redvenom,

The size is more a matter of preference and what you are planning on cutting.

I have both the medium and the large. I prefer carrying the medium when I carry in the pocket, but the large in a pouch. The titanium handle one in edmoses' photo has a very narrow profile and it is very lightweight which I do not mind carrying in the pocket also.

One thing for sure as mentioned by Big Tex and edmoses, you will not ever be disappointed by a genuine Carson custom. They are among the smoothest and most well-constructed of the customs that I own. The handles are very comfortable in your hand.

To follow up on Daniel's comment, when you first get a Carson Knife, it is easy to be under impressed. This is because they just work. Very well and very smoothly. It is only after you play with it for a while that you truly appreciate how well they are designed and put together.

The Ti handles on my Mod 4 are nice because as stated they are very thin and make for a very light, large pocket knife.

Yeah Red,
If a 4" blade would be of more use to you, I wouldn't let the overall knife size dissuade you from going with Kit's large model. My large Mod 4 is not overly thick and the pocket clip keeps the knife safely situated deep in your pocket. It really is a very comfortable knife to carry.

Thanks very much. You guys have been more than helpful, especially with the very good pics. Looks like I'll be short by $450 next month...

So redvenom,

You have fallen for the Mod 4!?!

What type are you going to get? Any thoughts on handle material etc?

Regards,

Ed

A custom Carson model 4 is part of my 'must get' list which involves getting folders from my 3 favourite tactical makers; Elishewitz (done), Carson, and Crawford. Since I enjoy using my knives, its definitely not gonna be a 'wall-hanger' so: std 4" clip point with micarta or G10 scales.
