I was looking over youtube at knife chunk. This guy carter seems to know his stuff, not to mention shaves his face with his stuff. Learned how to smith in Japan for years. Does anyone know about this guys stuff.

murray makes some of the best kitchen cutlery around.....he also makes some nice neck knives and outdoor knives....i have owned many.....not the best handles but the blades make up for it.....ryan

You can find out a lot about him from his site. I have his "wharncliffe brute" neck knife with an ironwood handle and it is probably the sharpest knife I own, holds the edge and is a good user. www.cartercutlery.com Expensive - but IMO, worth it.

bought his kitchen knives while he was in japan .brother has 10 or 12 .kitchen, huhting, &neck knives.to call him a master smith is understatement.left canada when18 or 19 became apprentice to master forger.after several yrs. he was given the whole operation. this forge extended back 22 generations.a 1st.in history.knives are intended for experienced hands ;no chopping or bending cuts.resides in oregon with spouse at this time.

I was thinking of getting a neck knife from him. How well do they carry? Hows the handle when carried? And how is his customer service?

I haven't owned Carter's knives, but IMHO he's overselling and over-hyping himself.
Hi grade from white steel(shirogami) is more expensive than Aogami steelknives from other
Japanese makers.
And after his "carter knfie club" thingy I don't really like personality. Good knives, but IMHO too expensive for what they are and better stuff is readily available for better price/performance ratio.

most of his neck knives r too big if u ask me....i live in a city though and can't wear it out over my shirt so....take that for what it's worth.....customer service i would say is lacking in a few areas.....send me a pm or email if u have any specific questions.....i'd be more than happy to answer any.....ryan

all his stuff is good but i would stay with kitchen cut.go with other forum makers for hunting, carry, general wilderness use.hitachi white not as durable as many other alloys.he is great forger but imo other makers have more versatility.
