I just received my Gelbu Special with the carved handle. The carving is exquisite -- it is finely detailed, but deeply cut, so I feel certain that the handle would easily withstand just as much use and abuse as its uncarved counterpart. And because of the carving, the grip is especially secure, which, it seems to me, would add greatly to the knife's suitability as a fighter (though it was not ordered for this purpose).
Because I just got the khuk, I haven't had a chance to do anything more than just fondle it for a few minuets -- but that was enough to convince me that this khuk is both a functional khukuri to be used and a work of art to be admired. The blade carries the mark of Kumar, but I don't know who did the carving.
