carved handles

It's my understanding that whichever kami makes the blade usually makes the handle for it.

I'm just wondering if this is true for the carved handles as well...

Since the kamis spend so much of their lives working with steel and an anvil, I'm sort of wondering how they find time to gain such skill in carving wood.

Does anyone know the answer?

When Bura had his stroke he was out of commission for awhile. As he was recovering, he carved a head on a large piece of wood. He just couldn't keep his hands still.

I think most people who are able to work with their hands in one area can do good work in other areas as well.

I'm reasonaby sure the Newaris carve some of the handles at least. The Newaris are the expert carvers in Nepal among silver and gold smiths and other art work. The Newaris probably carved the kami medallion that was up for sale the other day but I wouldn't bet on it either way.
Like the folks on this forum the kamis have a helluva lot of talent. :D

I suppose the medallion is old stock...no?

After all...Sher, Sanu, Kesar, Kumar and Murali?

Still cool...regardless. Can't wait for it to get here...
