Hello all,

Would you say that the fork in a meat carving set should be hardened/tempered along with the rest of the set, or should I leave it as is?
Using CPM S30V for all 3 pieces (fork, 13" carving knife, 3.75" paring knife)

Thanks!

I'm not sure how soft that steel is, but if it's anything like mild steel when unhardened, then I would HT it.

It won’t be used strictly for carving. It’ll be used to help lift a turkey or heavy roast out of a pan and other tasks.
Better heat treat it.

I believe I read somewhere here that some stainless steels become stainless after heat treat. I don’t know if this applies to 30V but it could only help.

That's a good point. I didn't think about that.

I didn't know SS wasn't stainless until after hardening! That's very interesting.

Thanks everyone!

having everthing hard will keep it nicely looking/uniform with the rest too
