Does anyone have any information or know where to look for information on how to carve in metal? What tools are used, etc. Thanks.

Carving ?? Do you mean engraving ? Engraving is done with gravers [miniature chisels] and a gravers hammer. Or by machine which is like a miniature jack hammer. It takes an artists eye and good dexterity.

Simple carving,in unhardened steel, can be done with carbide burrs (steel ones don't last long) and cratex wheels.Files are good for some of the removal, too.High speed hand pieces are a real advantage.Check out a jewelers supply catalog for the many burrs available.Like sculpting, the tools only remove the material - its the hands and eyes that know what to remove.

Stock removal can be done with a drill and finished with fine files. I have a set of diamond coated bits for my dremel that work fine for dressing up the finished shapes. Polishing can be done with some Jewelers slips (small shaped abrasive stones used like a file).

Thanks to the moderator for directing my request to the correct posting. I also appreciate the information I have received concerning this post. The carving I had in mind was the type done by someone like Larry Fuegen for example. I am very artistic I simply do not know what tools craftsmen such as Mr. Fuegen might use. Thanks.

here is a video/dvd by David Broadwell on just the subject you are asking about -

I heard Arpad Bojtos uses only a set of chisels and elbow grease. Even for the grind.
