I originally posted this in the Knife Collecting & Identification section of the forum, but now I think this may be the more appropriate location to list this...

Hello,

So, first, I know nothing about knives, kitchen or otherwise. I am a bit of an amateur chef, and a BBQ guy. I like meat, and things that cut meat well!

I found this carving set at an antique swap meet today, and I liked it. The metal appears strong, and the blades have somewhat of an edge to them. There is A LOT of patina on them. I talked the guy down to $20 for the set, because I want to try and actually use them in my outdoor kitchen for BBQ. When I got home, I used my knife honer on the straight blade, and actually got a decent edge after only about 5 min. I was able to then slice a 1mm piece of corned beef, so I am pretty happy with that.

Now I am curious about how old this might be, just for story purposes. As I said, they look old and patinaed, and appear to be made well. The only marking I see is on the blades of both knives and the fork, where it is marked "Fam. Ventura" in a box.

The guy bought it from knew nothing about them, and couldn't remember when or where he got them. So I figured I would give this a shot. I would be grateful for anything you could tell me about this set.

Thank you!
