Hello, does anyone have one of these? or handle it before? It looks really nice on the picture, is it an actual usable sword? or is it just another wallhanger?? Also how are the general quality of CAS Iberia Oriental swords? Thanks a lot.

I own the Cas Iberia (Paul Chen) Shinto Katana and I love the sword. The swords made by him are "Real" and are by no means a wallhanger. They will surely stand up with the best of them. It's about the closet thing you can get to a "traditional" Japanese Katana at that price range.Just don't expect a $10,000.00 Katana for $500.00 dollars.I love mine, and I took Robert M's advice on using some Flitz polish to remove some of the acid etching off the blade and reveal more of the natural hamon and it looks really good.I think you will be very satisfied with the quality.Chow,Ralph

I have one and like it. Don't care for the leather wrap but will eventually get it rewrapped.

They are great deals given the price. They would fit in the "real" sword category and will stand up to use. Mind you, katana are not machetes, they are not axes, they are not toys. A good number of people have hurt themselves or others by misuse, abuse, and general goofing around. So please be careful.

Like I said, they will stand up to reasonable use. They are not custom katana, they are not specially designed "glorified machetes" as I call many things, and they fill a niche for lower priced stuff.

They can be reasonably attractive if the oxides of the factory etch are removed, and can rank from OK to pretty good balance, depending on the kind you get. The Musashi and Golden Oriole come with a handle that I feel is generally too long for proper use, but some styles do utilize them I s'pose.

They aren't custom swords or Nihonto, nor will they perform as the higher end stuff does. But that does not make them bad, but generally you DO get what you pay for. And for the price, you are getting a good sword that can cut and can perform admirably, and has a fair degree of customization compatibility.

If you like it, I say go for it, in the price range you likely won't find too much else in terms of a "cutting" sword.

Shinryû.

Thanks a lot for the help, I guess i'll start saving for it
