I've been down to Ethan's place three times now, two Becker Gatherings and a birthday dinner for Ethan after the Spirit of Steel show.
Every time, I've been treated like royalty. Food and drink has flowed freely from whereabouts unknown. Conversation has been lively and fun.
And Ethan always takes the time to talk with you one-on-one and see how things are going. He is the epitome of a good host.
Susan is warm and welcoming, despite hordes of strange knife people descending on her home.
And twice now, John has cooked up an amazing meal for a throng of hungry people.

I know I've already posted a couple of "thank you" threads, but I surely don't want to overlook Ethan and his hospitable clan.
Included here as well is Moose who put in a solid assist with all the logistics and preparation for this last Gathering.
Thanks to all of you for a great time.

Well put Guyon. Kay told Ethan that it felt like coming home. His response was "That's exactly what I was shooting for". Just great, great people. I hope you all get the opportunity to meet them.

You know, Kay should be included in the thank-yous here.
Lots of people cooked or helped with the cooking, but Kay went above and beyond on Saturday with the food prep, cooking, and serving of all the side dishes.
While folks were starting to dig in, Kay was still zipping back and forth between grill and table and making sure that the remaining food turned out good.

Nice of you to say that. You missed out on the fried pies, but she's going to make you some first paddle camp.

Yay Kay! those pan pies she made were incredible!

Thanks to Bladite and trade, I realize we also need to extend thanks to Megan for some fine chimichurri, sauces, and biscuits. Two thumbs up.

you know, I woke up in a cold sweat last night, feeling embarrassed that I'd forgotten to thank everyone that made this past weekend as great as it was. Here's a heartfelt thanks to all the Becker family for letting us invade their otherwise peaceful property all weekend. Here's to Ethan for being the best host on earth and one of the wisest and kindest people I have ever had the pleasure to meet. Here's to Kay for working her butt off to make sure everyone had plenty to eat, and that I didn't burn those potatoes :). And here's to moose, for making sure every detail of the weekend went to plan and ran smoothly. And here's a cover-my-butt thank you to anyone I've forgotten. Everything came together beautifully, and I can't say enough good things about the place, the people, or our most gracious hosts. THANK YOU ALL!

Kay's fried pies were yummy. Megan worked her fanny off too.

Brian's redneck fondue bubbling pot of cheese and stuff was tasty as well

Brother, I wished you would have let us set you up with a hammock or sumpin'. But, if you were comfy, I say go with it. :D

Oh, yeah - Megan's biscuits & homemade apple butter were a grand way to start things off on Sunday.
Kay's fried pies were heavenly, and the time she spent on Saturday doing food prep and cooking were not ignored or unappreciated.

OF - you missed out on something awesome.

Moose,

Thanks, but I came with the intention of going low tech (in spite of all the junk I hauled with me for show and tell).Making a little jungle tarp setup and tossing a poncho on the ground was what I needed after spending all my time cooped up in Oak Ridge (I checked the weather ahead of time anyway so I knew I'd be dry. ;)). That little hollow between those trees was full of leaf litter anyway and I was as comfortable wadded up in a ball off the thermarest as I was on it.:D

i'm reminded i need Ethans' recipe on that. it's like crack.

Megan's biscuits were divine that morning too.

The biscuits were incredible as was the apple butter to go with them. I'm hungry now.

oh yeah. i was supposed to pickup a jar of her preserves on my way out, but they weren't home. oh wells.

these days, i'm not eating flour based products, so... alas.

raw honey for the win.
