I picked up these two at a show today. My good luck with finding the older knives that interest me continues (knock on wood
).
The 11031 SH is one I always wanted to find since I first saw a picture of one here at the forums. While they popped up on auction sites, sometimes at reasonable prices, I wasn't crazy about getting the knife without being able to see it firsthand before purchase. Just last week another member here posted about finding one for a bit over $10 (link) and in that thread I lamented that I'd never come across one in that circumstance. Well, I guess the squeaky wheel got the grease because now I have one of my own, a 10 dot 1970.
There's more pitting and marks on the blade than I might have wanted but I'm looking past that because the edge is all there, it's got no wobble and the spring is stout. I think the only knife I have that snaps harder than this one is the old Waterville. I was going to take the pictures before doing anything to the knife but impatience got the better of me and I put some mineral oil in the pivot and rubbed a bit on the covers. For $20 I'm really happy with it. I think it will make me less anxious about wanting to get the GEC #15 EO single blade sheepsfoot when they come out.
I will add further pictures after it gets sharpened and cleaned up some more.
Separate thread on the Federal found here.
