Howdy Y’all,

Just a quick question. If this has been covered before, I couldn’t find it. Does anyone know if the pen blade on the 63032 CV stockman is the same blade that is on the 62032 Small Texas Jack? Or is it a different profile? Hard to tell for sure in photos. Thanks!

TH

Comparing a couple of mine now. No, the pen blade on the 63032 Medium Stockman is not the same as the pen blade on the 62032 Small Texas Jack/Medium Jack.

The one on the Stockman pattern is a little shorter (edge to spine) and has a little more belly towards the tip. The point is a little higher, closer to the midline of the blade, while on the Jack it is more dropped.

There are other subtle differences, too. The Jack pen has a sharpening choil before the kick. The Stockman pens do not. The Stockman tangs have a more pronounced kick.

The Stockman pens are hinged on the opposite end of the serpentine frame, so when open they are more angled downwards with respect to the handle. That's may not make any difference in use, but it is a difference.

(This is based on looking at two 63032s and two 62032s made since 2010, compared side-by-side just now).

Well, that was quick and easy. Thanks!

Thanks John, I'd always assumed they were identical - apart from having nail nicks on different sides to suit the frame construction. the modified Pen blade is a really nice item though, broader and sturdier than the usual Pen and it would be excellent to see this blade more widely used. On a side note, I notice very real quality and construction differences between my cv Small Texas and the Olive Bone stainless one. The stainless is much better assembled and finished, its blades don't droop so much, display less can't.

Thanks, Will

Yeah - on the Stockman pattern it is much more of a generic pen blade shape. The Jack version has that special cool shape almost like a short modified wharncliffe that is really quite useful as smaller secondary blades go.

If I may piggyback this thread and ask - does the 62032 have half stops? Also, was there a pre-80's 6232 like the 6332 stockman preceeded the 63032?

No half stops on current production 62032. Can’t answer your other question, but I’m sure someone else here can.

I found the 6232. I must have been using the wrong search parameters before. The pen blade on these older knives looks like just a regular pen blade rather than the wharncliffe/Zulu spear on the newer ones. I still wonder if the 6232 has halfstops like the 6332 stockman did.

The 32 is one of my favorites. Both the 2 and 3 blade 32 pattern had half stops until 1978. In 1978, they switched to 032 but they did make some 32 marked knives without half stops in 1978.

Also, remember that ownership changed hands in 1972.

The 32 is a really nice pattern. Congrats on finding one.

Thanks for the info, but no congrats yet - I haven't purchased one. Not yet anyway. I've spent more than I should have on knives already this month.
