Case 32087

Also assuming not very long. The one book I refer to also doesn't list the 2-blade '087 pen pattern in yellow at all, nor the 3-blade '087 (stockman) in anything yellow. My reference book lists Case knives from pre-1940 through the 1980s. So, assuming any are out there in yellow, I'd have to assume they're at least 1990s or later.

As mentioned, if you have a chance to handle one and look at it, the stamp on the tang will indicate the year (or period of years, at least) of manufacture. Anything 1970 or later will be single-year-specific. Anything prior to 1970 will just date them to a period of a few or many years.

Found in the book Collecting Case Knives, by Steve Pfeiffer
"The 03244 R pattern in yellow handles was introduced in the late 70's as part of the Gentlemen's Line. This pattern was designed with a bail and polished CV blades. Later the bail was dropped and the pattern number changed to 32087 PEN."
also
"Up into the 1980's Case manufactured a two-blade pen knife that had the pattern number 03244 even though the pattern used the 087 style frame.
Circa 1987, Case changed the pattern number of the 03244 to the correct number (32087 PEN)"

Hope that clears things up.

Thank you. Interesting, but what is a bail?

I'm really curious, was the yellow delrin peanut first released in the 70s or 80s as well?

A bail, sometimes called a shackle, is the metal loop off one bolster used to attach to a chain for watch pocket carry.

This thread needs pictures!
As requested albeit a bit tardy. . .

I found this in a flea market north of Kansas City a few weeks ago and was searching for some info. The scales aren't celluloid are they?
