I saw a 1996 Case Trapper today, five blades. It had the standard clip and spey as well as one handed/razor, sheepfoot, and smallish drop point with stag scales. Was this a factory knife or did a bored machinist have a fun day? If I remember correctly the Model number was 5554 which would indicate 5 blades but not all the blades were marked.

Just how rare are these multi blade trappers?

Sounds like what Case calls the "Beast". Kinda neat, but not very easy on the pocket, I would think. They also make a five-blade Copperhead, and a five-blade Peanut too.

thx - cpr

So it is a fairly common production knife? I looked at it hard but didn't pull the trigger simply because I would never carry it...I like to carry the knives I buy regardless of value. Of course for the Case Sharktooth I picked up today I am going to have to come up with a belt sheath...lol.

Different blades but yes and in stag. However looking at the price on that one makes me think the one I looked at was way over priced.

I have got to find a copy of the 4th edition of Levines....

Levine's 4th ed. is a great volume and I use it more than any other book but it is probably not going to be much help with that knife. I'd be more inclined to use Sargent's "American Premium Guide To Knives and Razors" or Houston Price/Mark Zalesky "Official Price Guide To Collector Knives".

Edited to add:

In retrospect, I don't think Sargent's deals with 1990's vintage knives and I don't think the Price volume does either. They are too recent.

This model being just under 4" closed is the smaller version of the Beast. Built in '97.

That looks like a pocketful, Greg!

This version really isn't that big or very heavy. Too big for a pants pocket but would do fine in overalls. But then just about anything will fit in those.

I have been looking for a Levine's 4th Edition...not much luck. They had the one I saw priced at 450 which I though was high for production. I know that occasionally salesman's samples would include this type of knife in order to show blades off but this didn't trike me as a sample or prototype so I figured the folks here would know how common they are.

mckgreg - great pic! Thanks for posting it - I hardly ever get to see the backside like that.

I just happened to stumble on to a few versions of a TINY TRAPPER with 5 blades

The Tiny Trapper is called a Tiny Beast and was released by Shephard hills over the last couple of years. There were 9 different scales. All of them were really well finished.
