I have this big old Case knife. Opened, it is 9.25 long with a 3.75 in.blade. I am informed that it is likely a Case 6165 with jigged green bone handle slabs (There is no visible number on the blade but I am told that it is just hidden under the bolster.). It has a flat ground blade instead of the common saber ground and has a high pull, where the nail nick is before the higher portion of the back of the blade instead of past it as on later knives. Possibly made between 1940 and 1964?

It seems to be in very good condition. Very smooth opening and solid. No cracks in handle.

Is this information correct?

I know very little about Case knives, their history, collecting or value (My own knife interests are more fixed blade Scandinavian.)

The tang stamp shown, with 'CASE' over the 'XX' indicates 1940-1964 timeframe, known as Case's 'XX' era.

IF there's NO '6165' pattern stamp at all (hidden or not), that would indicate the knife was made in the pre-1950 segment of the 'XX' era. Case started including the pattern stamps on blades around 1950. If the knife had the sabre grind blade, as most of them do, the pattern stamp would be '6165 SAB'. With the green bone and the flat grind blade, that's a pretty rare & special combination, and I'm envious of your find there.

Impressive Giant:cool: Very admirable Folding Hunter. Greenbone always one of CASE's best offerings, if it had the Bomb shield it would be very collectible....but with the bone, its condition and the rarer flat grind it's still a desirable knife indeed. You need a vast pocket for these.
