What did Case name the 6175?

I found out that a 6275 is a Moose, so I assume they would call it a Half Moose (or something similar). But then I found out that the 6375 is a Stockman, so why didn't Case call the Moose a Half Stockman or something similar?

And, what is the history of the Moose? I.e.- is it actually for gutting/skinning moose or some other purpose?

Pretty much an industry standard that a large stockman frame with those blades is called a Moose.

I *think* the name predates Case.

As to why "moose", no idea. For a long time that was my favorite pattern, asked a lot about it here years ago, lots of reading old threads then, and while it's been 10 years ago, as far as I remember I never could get an answer to that "why".

And as Old Hunter said, the single blade is simply a "Single Blade Jack Knife", thats what Case calls it.

Its my understanding that Jack Knife is the standard name for pretty much any serpentine frame(ie the 75 stockman) with 1 or 2 blades off the same end.. Or any other frame with one or two blades off of one end, that doesnt have anotger specific name for that matter.

I didn't remember ever seeing one either when I saw the title, but after the pic, I remembered seeing them for sale a year or two ago. Doing a little research on this today, I did find one I'd never known of; apparently they made a 6147 too!

Case did a limited run in 2002 they called the "Double X Slimline Family" They were in an attractive peachseed jigged antique bone. There was a single-blade 6175, 6147, a 61087, a 6107W, TB6139 (Sowbelly) and maybe a few more.

You can find pics of them by Googling "Case Single Blade Jacks Collection," which seems to be an alternate name for the group of knives.

Edit:

Full list of them here: http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php/765381-need-2002-case-catalog-info
