I know I am always asking questions, often subjective ones but I am trying to prelearn from other's experience without having to buy everthing off of the net in order to just look at it. Spending 4+ hours and $50+ on gas just to go look at 25% overpriced knives in shops handed to me by jerks(can't understand why I want to look at more than one) is not amusing either.

I posted the thread about cutting the crap with trappers...I really like the way they look and feel but think I might get more use from a knife that has both large and small blades. I currently have a nice Boker trapper and often find myself choking up dangerously far on the blade just to do something simple.

So the question is...On the large case 6375 stockman the blades look quite wide. Like the top of the clip and sheepfoot blade would rub in your hand something awful when using the knife. Is this true? Does grinding down the foot on the tang help a little or a lot?

Mine is fine as is and hasn't required any tinkering. You won't be able to truly tell until you hold and use it in your own hand because it may be that the "hump" fits neatly enough in the hollow between fingers to be a non issue.

The top of the blades just blend into the creases and bends of your fingers and hand. I don't think you will have any problems.

nice to hear about fit. i have 2 of these coming, both CV; a new one from Billy, and an '87, unused' from ebay . i plan to make 1 a user; interested to see if there is any difference in "feel" between the 2. roland

I have one of these, a CV amber bone model. It feels like any other jumbo stockman in my hands; the sheepfoot sticking up never drew my attention, so I would guess that most all larger sized stockmans would have about the same feel to them.

I have to go against the flow a bit here. I have found the spine of the sheepsfoot blade to be uncomfortable on several of my larger stockman knives. I have also found that grinding down the kick to lower the blade takes care of the problem. I have more of mine "adjusted" this way than left stock.

Just my 2 cents ;)

If you can hunt one down, the Case 6.5275 Bonestag in CV is da' bomb of the Case "75"'s made in recent years!

As for the back of the blades, I have several Case "75"'s and have never noticed them bothering my hand, the contour the backs of the blades fairly well.

I'm with the big stockmans fiting into the creases of your hand and fingers really very comfortable for me, they are a nice handfull but kinda like that in a stockman, atleast the big boys anyhow. Hey if they need ground down for you, go for it, I like em..

A thought provoking post. I find the 6332 (medium size Case stockman) sheepsfoot to get in the way. Grinding down the kick would solve the problem. So simple.

On the 6375...I asked my Dad one time why he always carried the big Old Timer Stockman. The 80OT which is 3 7/8 closed. He said it he could hold on to it better with gloves on. ...since then, I've always considered this before dismissing a knife as too big or not fitting the hand well.

Bigger knives do have a place sometimes...

Things that I do with knives, I sometimes am bothered by the sheepsfoot sticking out so far, but that is usually when the knife is reversed and I am using the knife for an extended period of time with one of the other blades being the used one. For just pulling it out, cutting something, and putting it away, it's not a problem.

I never noticed this as ever being a problem with mine. I recon that since I learned how to use all sizes and variations of the stockman pattern over 39 years ago, I have gotten well use to how to manipulate the knife so as not to cause any discomfort.. But hey, to each his own, whatever works.

I've used a couple of this pattern over the years and have noticed no problem as a matter of fact i like them alot. good luck, ahgar
