Case and Queen...

Yesterday I received a Case trapper and a Queen Dan Burke trapper. Although the Queen's finishing is slightly more refined than in the Case, and the blade on the Queen has a great stop and walks more smoothly than the Case's, the edge on the Case knife is far superior to the Queen.

I bought both knives for the sake of checking out the fit and finish, the overall quality of modern production knives. Well, at least in the case of Queen and Case (no pun intended.) And, of course, a knife man needs a fix every so often.

In neither knife the blades rested squarely in the middle of the handle. In neither knife did the blade fit squarely with the lock spring. However, in both knives the fit of the bone slabs is excellent.

I'm working on the edge of the Queen blades, and so far it hasn't been a jiffy to sharpen properly the entire length of the blades. They are rougher at the tip. The Case is razor sharp and ready to go. It is a shame that the Queen's blades are so dull as it is a fine knife otherwise.

Your impressions seem to echo the sentiments of many of our other members. (Though recently some had reported better edges on recent Queen models.)

My personal experience is also similar and have found that once properly sharpened the Queen's are very nice knives.

My experience is the same. I have not tried to sharpen the Queen yet. But I have heard with some work they can be razor sharp.

I found the Queen D2 responded well to diamond hones. My Queen is now quite sharp and holds that sharpness much better than my Case.

(Must be why they call it "Queen"...responds well to the presence of diamonds.)

I have been able to get my Queen D2 knives scary sharp using "conventional" stones - Norton India medium/fine and then black Arkansas.
