i just bought a Case Arapaho XX SS knife on ebay, 'cause the price was low and i like pretty well all knives.
i have searched here, on the Case website, google, and can't find any info on this knife. so would some kind soul fill me in: years of production, a 'popular' item or a 'dud' ?, interest by Case collectors ?, plus anything else relevant in it's history.

thanks, roland

It's been quite a while since I saw a new one, but I don't recall the blade being quite that shape. Never was much interested by them, myself.

Roland thats definately different , dont believe Ive ever seen one like that, neat example!! What it the overall knife length? - Joel

I had one of these way back when and I'm pretty sure the blade was a different shape.
There was also a couple of other models named after native american tribes:
Pawnee
Shawnee (I think)

Seller says OAL 8" blade 3 3/8" and that sheath is not original. he concludes with " I am not a knife expert. Sold as is", which could be seen as the perfect excuse for omitting pertinent details.
i agree the blade looks a little stubby and why i'd like to see a pic of a minty example. i have Sargent's 6th ed. but he does not cover the more recent Case knives.
thanks for the years of production. still hoping someone has one and will post a pic. i am assuming now that this was not a popular model.
i paid $12.50 so it's no big deal, but as with evry knife, ya gotta know about it if it's going to live in your house.

In my experince, " I am not a knife expert. Sold as is" is ebay code for "I'm trying to dump this turkey and I'm counting on your ignorance to close the sale."

This doesn't apply only to knives. I've had mostly good experience on ebay but there have been several items I passed on because of this type of thing.

Am I the only one that thinks it looks better with the shorter blade?

Nice looking knife either way though!

Thanks Abs. from relative postion of the etch, i'd say mine is shorter and then reshaped, giving less width and belly. i'll post back when knife arrives to see if my $12.50 was well spent or not. as Ice T. says above, might work just fine "customized" like this.

I got a Schrade on ebay that was reshaped, a little disappointed at my purchase, but then I sharpened it, and use it as a beater, and kind of like my little ugly tool now. Great price, used it to learn how to sharpen on, and still enjoy the knife, as you should. Live and learn.

Right on ! cj65; that's exactly what i like to do too. i buy knives to collect, but i also go for lots of used ones and"mystery" ones and then enjoy "playing" with them, and then give them away to anyone who wants a good working knife. it's fun !

my Case Arapaho has arrived. the blade is 3 1/2", so missing about 1/2".
however it has been re-shaped nicely and has a shaving sharp edge !
so i think it will make a fine utility knife, esp. at an overall cost of less than $20. pic below shows the knife with another which has a 4" blade for size comparison.
