Case ATS34

Possibly, but who would pay that much for a Case just because it's ATS-34? From what I have seen the ATS knives are just marginally better made than the regular line, so you're paying an additional ~$160+ for a $1-2 upgrade in steel.

People are saying the oil companies are price gouging

At $200 you're getting pretty close to custom prices, or just above in the case of a couple of makers. I would suggest looking at Gary Crowder, Ray Cover or Jeff Cover and getting 5x's the knife for $0-50 more money.

Here and here are two great examples. (not mine) (Edited to add: oops, just realized the second link is not a folder...)

I like Case knives, but I like sharp knives and Case doesn't make those:D The grinds are archaic and the steel not that great.

Hmm...all of the ones I've bought recently must have been "special" for some reason, they all were razor sharp and work just fine. :D

Mine have been razor sharp out of the box. I really like their Amber bone series, but I won't spend that much money on a Case.
