We need a better description. What do the markings say? There should be something on both sides of the tang (the flat part of the blade nearest the handle). What's the size, handle material, etc.?

My grandfather just gave me one. It is in a green and white box. in it there is a small piece of paper that about barlow and says barlow custom on the front of it. The handle is some kind of white material and has 2 ducks and trees (a whole landscape) engraved on one side of the handle

it has two small blades. (.75 and 1.25 inches?) and says barlow stainless on the bigger blade. On the other side it has a pennzoil logo. It seems to be an old knife in perfect shape.

anyone know about this knife?

thanks

Lee

the overall lenth with the large blade out is app.5.75 inches large blade app.2.5 it has 4 pins in the handle,the handle appears to be synthetic material brown and ivory unable to tell how much of the color is influenced by patina,the blade says case tested xx . thanks David

Let the disclaimers flow like a mighty river...

Assuming that...
1.) It's a standard Barlow- around 3 3/8ths closed;
2.) That's celluloid, specifically "butter & molasses"- sounds right;
3.) It's a real Tested XX, made 1920-1940, and not a reproduction;
4.) It's in what Levine calls "excellent unsharpened" condition,

Then it's worth probably around $120. If anything changes, like it's a reproduction, or has been rehandled, the value likewise changes.

Next.

"Barlow Stainless" is a trademark of the Barlow Co. in Japan. It's from the mid-70s, but of little value. Unless you want to keep it nice for some reason (it's only worth about $15), go ahead and use it.

thanks, it is the old one and not japenese, i also bought a barlow style, says barlow on the metal at the front of the handle, and imperial on the blade. David

Imperial barlows, unless it's a very early example, aren't worth much. Tap the bolster a few times. If it sounds hollow, it's probably from the late 50s-60s, and not worth more than about $20.
