Can anyone educate me on the "anthracite" and/or PVD blade coatings that Case is putting on some models? What is supposed to be the advantages of coating a Tru-sharp blade with these coatings? Is this just "gimmick" marketing?

Yup. Sure is. I couldn't tell you what the supposed "benefits" would be, beyond making the blade look stupid at first, and progressively looking worse as the coating scratches and wears. I couldn't tell you for sure, because I won't ever buy one. :barf:

Tacti-cool Cases? No thanks.

I guess it's supposed to give SS the look of an older carbon blade. They should just offer more CV in the first place. I don't care for it myself. If I want it to look old I'll buy a used knife.

Exactly, instead of dreaming up some new coating they should just go ahead and make offer almost everything in CV.

I hadn't heard about the knives with coatings, so I looked but didn't find them.

No big deal though. I'm guessing its an attempt to attract more new buyers.

I'm o.k with that, although I don't think it would be much interest to me. Kinda like the series they brought out that had blued blades.
I did go to one of the big dealers websites, and Case has brought out quite a few new items for 2011, and thats a good thing in my book. Anything to help with sales, and possibly attract new buyers to their products...

Granted, a lot of the items probably aren't much interest to us knife nuts here, but if it helps the bottom line, thats a great thing for all of us.

It would be really cool if they would bring back EXACT duplicates of the XX era knives lol :D

:thumbup::D

I don't want to miss out on the greatest. If it's just the latest, that's okay but not necessarily for me. The knives I was looking at are Case vintage stag series....

looks like a "yo! tactical man" thingie

don't like it, coupled with stag looks awful, prefer shiny blades
a coated CV "may" be interesting, maybe a trapper with 2 clip blades one polished one black, to use it for food?

a CRK slippie would be awesome BUT I wanna it fullflat and with S30V at 60-62hrc, not less than 60!

After Googling the coating and seeing some pics - Wow, is that outside my scope of what a traditional knife should look like.

I think they used it so they could use white and silver script on the blade, which would not show up well on a polished SS blade

I agree David. Gimmick marketing is all I can think of. It really doesn't make much sense for a traditional knife in my mind. As yet to see what it is supposed to bring to the party. It detracts from otherwise nice stag patterns.

Sounds like titanium nitrade coating on drill bits... useless but shiny, and impresses those that know nothing about metals or tools.

I like blued blades, thats a touch of class, like Real guns used to have. Its too bad most with it have shiny nickel bolsters and it makes the bluing stand out like a pink flamingo in a flock of seagulls..

CRK finally making slip joints ? I knew they would see the light eventually :D

A Ti slip joint? Way ahead of you....got one of those already. :p

I have a Case peanut with the blued blades (CV). It looks good.
