Hi All,

I'm very taken with the Lanny's Clip pattern--it looks extremely versatile and useful. While I am on the list for one from a custom maker, the wait is long, and the Case Bose collaboration is very tempting. Has anyone picked one up and actually used it or put it through its paces? I'm interested to know how you've found it.

All else being equal, should I jump on one now, or hold out for the custom I have on order?

Cheers,
Daniel

I'd get it. They'll likely sell out completely, and won't be made again. If you decide you don't like it, you should be able to sell it with almost no loss.

I can't wait to get mine, been paying on an order for one and a new Spyderco Starmate with a well known pharmacy, er, knife shop. Seems that they're really hard to get right now. More so than all the other annual collaborations. If it's anything like the other annuals I've gotten, it's going to be a great knife. If you're already going to spring for a custom, I'm guessing you can afford the annual? I would go for both.

This may be a tad late, but I figured I'd chime in, having just picked one up (and looked at several others) at a local shop. Nice knife, meaty blade for a traditional and all of them I saw were nicely ground. I will point out that I ended up going with ebony although I'd been intending to grab a bone one, but on every single bone version I saw, the shields were very proud, so much so that I wondered about their square edges catching something and popping them right out of the scale (not saying it WOULD happen, but I've seen lots of traditionals with missing shields through the years) whereas the ebony versions had the shield ground flush with the scale.
A detail I didn't know about before seeing them in person was the relieved liners; a nice touch which--along with the fit/finish and real blade steel--made the nigh-custom price more palatable. It's riding in my pocket now and I'm very pleased with it.

The shields are pinned on the LC so they can't fall off. The shield on a bone handled knife has to be left proud or you would grind the jigging off the bone when you ground the shield pins off. People wouldn't be happy if they did that. You can make them flush on any smooth handle material but not bone or stag.

I've got my Chestnut bone one in my pocket right now. I love mine, and had saved up since learning about the release back in the Spring.

It was a big chunk of change, but I'm glad I got mine. I could have sprung for a quickie off of the auction site for about $25 less, but felt loyalty to the seller who put me on the list and was so good to communicate with.

I had been hoping for an affordable version of this knife since I first saw it in the Bose thread from a couple years back, and was excstatic when I found they were going to make the Bose/Case collab.

I know my children will have to pry this one from my cold dead fingers someday.:D

I hate to be a deal spotter, but I have to tell you that a dealer on this website (see exchange) is offering a 20% discount on the Lanny's Clip in Chestnut with free shipping. That makes it $70 less than I paid.

I'm tempted to buy another one to keep for trading later.

Ahah, well pinned is certainly better.

I picked up the antique bone, rides nice in the pocket for its size which is a little larger than I usually carry. I like it a lot.
