Looking at getting a lockback whittler bc just got a dogleg and the previous owner kept it in like new condition and since it's over a decade old I'd prefer not to carry/use it.

So I'm looking at one of these. If you've had one id like your input on the knife itself and if you'd recommend it.

I have both Case /Bose lockback whittlers. One from quite a few years ago had a clip point main with pen and coping secondary blades. Mine is nice but there were reports of weak secondary blade springs. Mine could be stronger too.
The Wharncliff lockback whittler I have is as well made and finished as any custom knife that I own. I'm pretty sure you'll be pleased.
If there's anything in particular you want to know I'll help if I can.
Here's a pic of them.

The wharncliffe version puts the lock back whittler pattern in the "use me" column. The few I've seen in person were quite good. It's the most difficult pattern to make of all the collaborations. If Tony says its tough to make, it is, period...

I would want an ironclad refund option for that reason alone.

Prefer the original run of clip points. My damascus one had a lock that was almost impossible to unlock and the original fit and finish was not up to standards. After a two-month vacation at Case it came back better, but not as good as my non damascus. The secondary blades on mine aren't the snappiest either, but considering their size and intended use, they are pretty close. Too heavy for edc for me.

Ah sweet thanks the warnie is the one that I'd like haven't heard any negatives about the springs like the clips. Couple questions looks like it would be awkward to use for some reason. Is it for you? And how the weight in pocket feel see a lot if it's too big for EDC for my taste comments

It's 3 7/8" long, 1/2" wide across the spine (my ebony model is) and weighs about 2.9 oz. I've used it some and it's pretty comfortable. If you're using a secondary blade you can feel the hump of the Wharncliff but I'm not bothered by it. It's a little larger then I normally put in my pocket.

If you've made up your mind, it's a great knife. If you're open to other suggestions in the Case/Bose collaborations, take a look at the Norfolk from 2009. It's my favorite of all the collabs I've owned. You can still find them on the secondary market. 3 3/4" long, with a wharncliff and a small clip blade. Thin and great in the hand. Here's a couple pics of mine.

That's a good size not too big or small thank you. The Norfolk is a nice knife kinda reminds me of a swayback haven't actually saw one on the exchange or auction sites people that have them must like them

I like the looks of the lockback but I don't care for wharncliff main blades. That said, if I'm only taking 2 knives to my grave, I'm taking a CRK micarta small inkosi and the Case Bose Cattle Knife in ebony. The Cattle Knife is a workhorse and a pleasure to carry and use daily. IMO it's the best all around collab to date.

The cattle knife is possibly my favorite as I like Stockmans I've tried to get two off eBay and the bidding has gone to like $450 on both and I'm not willing to pay that much they're hard to come in to at least for me

I did get lucky on mine and landed in well under $400. Knowing what I know now. I'd pay $450 easy. Keep up the hunt though you'll find one!
