This is new to me. I just spotted the new Muskrat that is a Case / Bose collaboration. The ones with ATS-34 Blades and the leather pouch. Seems like they are gonna have different scale material like the previous Jack Knives. Have they been out a while? Am I slippin' again ?

There is a picture of these in the June Knives Illustrated on page 33 with a short paragraph about them on page 32 in the SHOT show article. I think they are new and the prices listed were $380 to $450 :eek:

Are those the same ones as in the SMKW catalog? If so, what the heck are they doing putting a wharncliff on a muskrat? Wrong, I tell you, just wrong. :confused:

Appears to be darn useful to me. What's life without a little spice?

Took a look at one over the weekend. One spring so it really is a "semi-muskrat" from that point of view. Like the others in the series they are not cheap, but I have not seen another factory knife that comes close to the quality. I only saw them at the Case booth and they are in the middle of production, but some have gone "out the door".

Sandstone, welcome to B.F. Hope you enjoy this place and it's folks at least as much as I do!

If you've never skinned a furbearer ( which the muskrat pattern excells at), you can't fully appreciate how useful that wharncliffe blade really is. S. Stanley Hawbaker knew what he was about when he came up with the idea.

Greg, they are just coming out. You didn't miss a thing. Tony Bose says this is the best one Case has done so far. I don't like to carry pearl, but I've also heard that the pearl Case is using is crazy.

Crazy pearl? Like in Good Crazy or like in Junk Crazy?
Greg
Like great crazy. A lot of pattern and color.

Forget where I heard that term, but it always made sense. The adjectives I've heard and liked for describing great handle material are:

Pearl = crazy
Stag = gnarly, killer

Can't think of any that have stuck in my mind for bone, micarta, abalone, ivory. Maybe someone can provide those.

I can think of a few for abalone, but I dont want to be rude.
