Last week on that Tennessee TV knife show I took a chance on some unseen stag. We all know that they do many special factory orders (SFO) with Case, Queen, GEC, Bear and probably others, as well. This one was unusual enough for me to try one.
This knife is a Case #TB.G52110 SS, Tony Bose small saddlehorn in mossy green stag. But you won't see this one on their website, because it was a factory error. They had a few come through from the run WITHOUT the big etch on the clip blade (as shown on the website).
Mark side: I like the modified, but plain, bowtie shield and lack of etch.
Pile side: Nice range of colors in the stag. Slight blade rub on skinner near tip.
Blades line up good in their channels, and springs are nearly flush at half stop.
Mark side scale is a bit too fat, doesn't match up for thickness.
Slightly raised spring on the skinner at open position.
Blade edge grinds are about a "B", slightly uneven, but very sharp.
Overall, I really like this 3-1/2" pattern and the look of the mossy stag. Fit and finish is typically good, but not great, like most of the current Case offerings. Maybe it's just my impression, but I think SFOs don't quite get the same attention that the factory's own knives get. The springs on this one are just a little softer than most of my Cases, and the stag could have been a better match, side to side. Also, the stainless blades have that tumbled, smooth finish that detracts from the nice swedges, but I guess that's what the collectors want. All in all, a pretty nice and very unique knife for the money.
