Yesterday I received a very nice example of the Case/Bose Swingguard, a knife I have been hunting for some time. Its a handsome brute, as anyone who owns one can tell you, very tall and slim and with an awesome 4 inch clip point blade. Its something I can imagine Jack London carrying on his travels in the Yukon...
It immediately struck me that its quite an oddity compared to most of the traditonals I've seen, which tend to be small, multi-bladed slipjoints.
What is the story of the swing guard? Is it meant to be a fighting knife? Why else the guard and lock I wonder? Not to mention its monster size and that wicked swedge...
Anyone know the history behind the swing guard style blade and its purpose?
