I'm familiar with Case Bros & Co., Gowanda, NY. These were made by C.Platts & Sons for Case Bros. They date around 1896-1897 while Platts was in Gowanda and before Case Bros had a manufacturing capability. However, I recently acquired a jack with ebony handles clearly marked Case Bros & Co., Little Valley, NY on both blades. Can anyone tell me the facts around this knife? Who made it, and when?
My supposition is that Platts made the knife for Case Bros after they had moved to Eldred, Pa. in 1897, but before Case Bros had established their manufacturing capability. Is that correct? And for how long was this mark used? And which is the more rare mark, Case Bros & Co., Gowanda, NY or Case Bros & Co., Little Valley, NY?
Thanks, Bob
