So, I thought I had decided on a GEC white owl for my next knife, but I happened across a picture of a Case canoe today. Now I'm not sure. Can anyone that has both post comparison side by side pictures? They look very similar.

Opinions wanted as always.

Here ya' go...forgive the pic quality...I like 'em both,...each pockets quite comfortably for me...

Pics are larger than actual size...

Awesome! Thanks soooo much sitflyer. I still think I like the GEC better. :D. I love this place.

Does Case make an equal end jack?

I have one of each. Length wise there would be half a fleas dick difference.
The White Owl is smaller overall but both v pocketable.

I don't own a White Owl (yet), but I do own a canoe or two, and while I love the overall design, I find the main blade to be a little on the blunt side for my taste.

Not an equal end jack, but the Case 32087 pen compares favorably. It has more of a serpentine shape, so that may put you off.

I do not have my ebony White Owl any longer. I had the spear blade, if it had been a clip main blade, I would probably still have it. I have several spear blades on various Victorinox knives. All that to say, I cannot do comparison shots, but I can give you comparative measurements.

Closed length
White Owl: 3.5"
Pen: 3.375"

With main blade open
White Owl: 6" (2.5" spear blade)
Pen: 5.75" (2.125" clip blade)

With secondary blade open
White Owl: 5.1875" (1.6875" pen)
Pen: 4.875" (1.375" pen)

Width
White Owl: 0.4375"
Pen: 0.3125"

For me, both of these knive are like the old hymn, "Almost Persuaded".

I would go for either of these in a nano-second if they replaced the pen blade with a cap-lifter/screw driver blade.

Pinnah, it's like that for me too. I almost went and bought the Case pen, and might still, but I really really want a White Owl, and I don't think "almost" will be close enough.

Sitflyer, dang you!! I had decided against buffalo horn as not quite tough enough for 30+ years of daily carry, but seeing your dusk horn model, well, I want one again!! Grrrrrr.........

Not sure if the White Owl frame, being single-spring would be able to carry off a lifter.

Of the two, I'd opt for the Owl. The Canoe has never really moved me, despite having some of them. Too heavy in the pocket with those burly bolsters. Also, most CASE ones are 2 spring. The Queen Canoe I have is single-spring but a very thick spring with a thick Master blade too, slicing compromised and heavy. I've noticed with the Queen and a Böker Canoe I have (single spring) that the Pen blade often jams against the Master blade when trying to close it . Has to be 'helped' in. No such problems with GEC single spring knives.

Regards, Will

:D :p :) Here's a little more fuel for the fire...pictured with my Case Sowbelly, the pile side is where the horn really shines on this one...

Yes, that's a little flash of red amongst the gold in there ;)

Enablers indeed! I love the horn on that WO. Very beautiful! Thats why I like buff horn. It can have some awesome personality.
