Case Carhartt Wharncliffe Mini Trapper: my 7 days a week EDC

I've been really thinking about my knife usage habits as well as EDC options. While I absolutely love modern folders and sometimes really big honking folders, they just aren't as useful to me as the knife that I would not think twice about throwing in my pocket. For a lot of what I thought I would want a big stout modern folder for, I end up using a fixed blade or better yet an actual tool like a pry bar or screw driver, wedge for splitting. So I've decided to really reduce the amount of modern folders I own. I think so far I can get on with just a couple of moderns just fine.

On that note I might have found my every day EDC, it's the Case Carhartt Mini Trapper with a wharnie blade. It's slim, really, really pocketable and has just enough blade to handle most tasks with aplomb. It almost feels modern even though it's clearly traditional. I was debating a slim modern when I went back to a wharnie thread and looked at all the options. This one came out the clear winner! I've only had it for about an hour, but I took to it instantaneously. The synthetic jigged covers are a real plus for me something about being one foot in the old and one foot in the new really appeals to me.

Good looking workhorse knife you've got there. I have one of the single-blade Wharncliffe Mini Trappers as well, though I have really never carried it since I got it. They are good little knives.

That's a nice one! I'm also debating it's brother from another mother the Copperlock in blue! Some of the other makers are getting my attention though so it's tough. I think I'm going to hang out with this Carhartt for a spell for sure though!

Mini Trapper and Mini Copperlock combo (same knife as above, just different lighting, along with his kin)

That Carhartt will last a lifetime for you unless you lose it. I like the way they did the dyed and jigged Delrin covers, and the as-ground finish. Just looks classy all around.

Very cool I love the copperlocks blade shape as much as the wharnie! Going to have to pick up a red or blue one!

Looks like a nice knife. I had a 2-blade (clip & wharncliffe) mini trapper and I liked the pattern a lot. Mine had the polished blades but I've had a few other Case knives with the "as ground" blades. I'd like to see that finish on more Case knives. The polishing tends to round the edges and I prefer the crisper finish on the "as ground" blades. I haven't seen those particular synthetic handles... sorta reminds me of the Uncle Henry knives from Schrade.

Mine is an as-ground Carhartt in green olive bone. Wharncliffe and clip. but I can't find the pictures.

Same here. Really wish case would offer more of the as ground blades on different knives. Polished blades look nice but they scratch easy and show finger prints like crazy.

Agreed, the as ground process gives the blades a little bit of edge as well as a satiny finish in it's unfinished state. But I really am keen on how the edges of the blade aren't rounded from the polishing process as well.
