Now I've done it!:p I've only discovered this traditionals forum a couple of weeks ago and really admire the beautiful knives posted here. So last night while aimlessly googling, I found a Case Carhatt Wharncliffe Mini Trapper at a seller that shipped to my country (Singapore) and was within my budget. I like the blade shape and it was affordable so I pressed "ORDER"!

Now I can't wait for it to arrive. In the meantime, I've been searching this forum for any additional info on this knife and I can't seem to find anything. Does anyone own one of these or have handled one before? Any comments about it? I really hope it doesn't turn out to be an impulsive buy. Cheers!

I don't have the Carhartt model, but I do have a Case mini Wharncliffe Trapper. Very nice knife. Just the right size. It's very pocket friendly, yet has enough handle for a comfortable, secure grip. Feels good in the hand. Great selection of blade shapes. Highly recommended.

I don't have the specific Carhartt-branded one that you ordered, but I have a Case single-blade Wharncliffe Mini Trapper. I think you'll be very pleased with it. The knife is very slim and easily pocketable with a great blade shape.

Here's a few pics of mine (this is the Second Cut Antique Bone from 2010, I believe).

Thanks a bunch for the comparison pics, especially against the cross pen. It really helps in getting a feel for its size. I'm just a little curious about some of the specs describing the Carhatt version. What does strong shoulders and Lazy Duck bolsters mean? These 2 terms are what I find different from the other mini trappers.

I don't believe I have ever heard those terms applied to a knife.

This guy? :D

You can see how the bolster is shaped differently from the other examples. I believe that's the 'lazy duck.' To echo the others, I think you're going to enjoy your purchase for for its weight and feel.

My pic is not showcasing the knife as well as the ones above, but in person, the satin/matte finish on the bolsters and blade is a nice change of pace from Case's usual look, imo, especially when matched with that fde g-10. The handle texture is pretty rough, though whether that's a plus or not depends on what your plans for it.

"Lazy Duck" refers to the shape of the bolster on the non-hinged end, where there is sort of a wave to the edge of the bolster where it meets the handle.

I am guessing that the "strong shoulders" is a reference to the blade grind, which is reminiscent of Case's "New Grind" that was introduced in the 80s but later discontinued except in some models. Essentially instead of the blade having a sharp shoulder where it meets the tang, it's more of a gradual curve.

It might be that one with the G10, or it could be this one with the "double dyed" synthetic:

Actually, Case describes the terms in great detail in their online catalog for those knives:

Thanks John! Appreciate you taking the time to explain things to a newbie like me. Every sellers website I saw had these 2 terms in their description without showing what they meant. Guess they just copied the text from the Case website :)

From what I can determine, the phrase "Lazy Duck" is what Carhartt calls the stitching pattern they used on the back pockets of their jeans over the years, which is sort of a wave pattern that looks like those bolsters.

While I don't particularly care for Case's Carhartts, I've picked up a few of the patterns that I like. Here is a sawcut mini trapper/warncliff that I found to be a very stylish version.

Will surely do. But it may take a while getting to me as I'm in Singapore. The wait is killing me!
