I was looking through one of my Shepherd Hills catalog and I'm going to confess that the Case chestnut bone trapperlock (CV) is killing me. I have a chestnut bone sway back (CV) on order but geez....the trapperlock is calling out...."Jason...buy me....carry me"

Anyone have one of these yet?

When I am not financially able to acquire my next knife, I try not to look at catalogs. I know that feeling you are talking about way too well.

I have two trapperlocks, chestnut CV and red bone SS. I think the design has some flaws. My chestnut closes on me. The scale is ground too deep where you unlock the blade. When using the knife in open position, for instance, when I was shaving feather sticks for a fire, because of the deep grind, the index finger slides in just right and unlocks the blade. I found this to be the case on all the knives I've handle. Plus the knife itself is way too smooth opening for straight pocket carry. They open so easily I'm afraid to carry them in the pocket.

I agree with you Mora...the knife (trapperlock) should come with it's own slip.

Good stuff Morablades.....thanks. I didn't understand what you meant when you said "I found this to be the case on all the knives I've handle."

He probably means all the Trapperlocks he has handled. I love my Chesnut Trapperlock, I have been carrying it for a couple of weeks now. Iput a clip on mine (tip up). It makes a perfet EDC for me now!

I'd love to see some pics of what your trapperlock looks like with the clip.

I have been thinking of getting a Trapperlock, but the lack of a clip deterred me. I would love to see pics, and would like to know:

--where did you get the clip?

--what is it called?

--how do you attach it?

--or did someone else do it custom?

Just curious; interested in doing the same.

Thanks.

I'd be interested as well.

I have a redbone SS and while I have not experienced the issues Morablades has I do find it a tad bit too large for comfortable pocket carry.

Actually, I like the knife alot!

I tried one and could not get into it. I have never had a liking for saber grinds on folding knives much.

I have been wanting something of Case's Chestnut Bone knives but I cannot for the life of me figure out what kind of chestnuts have bones?

I had two in CV but returned both due to mfg. flaws. It seemed to have more blade than the handle could handle if that makes any sense. Also, I did not trust the liner lock.

I did a crappy job.... but I'll post pics tomorrow.

IMO, It's not a tactical lock. If you use the knife like a slip joint (with the added bonus of a lock) the knife will serve it's purpous. I gave a little review it this forum a couple of weeks ago.

The Case Trapper sheath fits them well if you like belt sheaths. I assume you are meaning the slip sheath that you can put in your pocket. That wouldn't be a bad idea for case to manufacture those with the Trapperlocks. Would it be cost effective for Case? I dunno.

Here is my clip pictures. Fit and finish suck, but form and function is awsome for this knife IMO. I STUPIDLY used a tiny carbide center drill and the tip broke off it the bolster. I had to tap one hole larger than the other by the time I dug the piece of carbide out. I should have used a High speed steel center dill, Or (and more to the point, been more car full). I used 2-56 torx screws I robed from a kersaw knife.

I held the knife open in a vise. I cut a piece of thick plastic and contoured it to the inside of the knife and put the spine of the knife on the back jaw. I put same height parallels under each bolster for the down force of the drill.

I used a clip from a flashlight I had.

The first thing I did when I got it was put 30 Deg. bevel and 40 Deg. edge on the blade with my sharp maker. It increased the performance of the Saber Grind 10 fold.

I just got in a Yellow CV Trapperlock. Looks like I'll be getting the rest of them soon.
They are addictive. After you get past the detent they're so smooth.
Good lock-up and no wobble.
They did a fine job on these IMO.

What's left? Chestnut, JW Oak, Stag, Long Tail Medit Blue, Red Bone.....
I think there is a Red Stag. Anything else?
