Ok, I really like my Case, SS blade and all. I however don't like many of their handle scales. When I search EBAY I see a look of cool knives, e.g. a Copperlock with Molasses Bone handles, nice. Are these user knives? I mean many are limited runs. They are not that pricey is it worng to buy them and use them? I'm going to take care of them, but they willl be used.

Any use will bring down the value, IF you plan on trying to resell at a profit years later, if for personal use and pleasure, then by all means use them and enjoy. Just do not expect to get your money back.

I hope not, since I use all the knives I buy, collectors item or not. I plan to be buried with all my knives, so reselling is not a concern. So far, the collector cops haven't broken my knees for using rare knives, so you should be okay ;)

Making money on knife collecting is a joke. If you want to use them just use them and be happy.

Collecting knives, guns, baseball cards, nascar crap, etc...etc.....is a horrible investment. A common online mutual fund will make waaaaaaaayyyyy more money than a knife collection.

Your hobbies should make YOU happy. If that means using them then by all means use them. Don't worry about a knife losing value because 99.99999% of them time they lose monetary value anyway in the long run.

I have about 18 different CASE knives and I don't hesitate to use them to open packages, envelopes, and those pain in the neck CDs, and DVDs ...in other words occasional light duty work. A few are $100, I would't want to abuse them and break the blade, etc.

You are absolutely right:thumbup:

Having a knife collection is an interesting distraction from work or daily troubles and it never get's boring. As for the investment aspect, who cares, buy gold or a fund or even play roulette they are all more likely to enrich you, moneywise that is. :D Knives are for using, but they need care too obviously.

I had a knife that I was keeping in the box and unused. Had it for nearly 15 yrs. Folks on here encouraged me to use it. I finally pulled the that knife out and carried it for a while. Though I haven't carried it recently, I've gotten more enjoyment out of it in the first month using it than I ever did in the previous years hoarding it. Afterwards, I started seeing them showing up now and again on ebay and the same knife was selling NIB for much less than I paid for it new in the early 90s. And I got it at a discount at the gun shop I was working at.

I would hope whoever gets it, or any of my knives, on down the road will appreciate that it was held, used, and valued for what it is. I certainly hope any family that gets it would cherish it more for that than as a mint, safe queen. If not, fooey on em.

back in 2004 Case made 4 models of knife with the Cattaraugus tang stamp, these were listed at around $355, you could get them from various sellers for about $250 on up, I have heard of some using these as EDC's, whatever you feel comfortable with, go for it,

What I well spoken statement from a valued member here.! Pretty much in a nutshell.

Thanks for that Mr. Amos Iron Wolf

I have had a Case Copperhead with Wharncliffe and pen blades for several years. The handle scales are blue bone, and are holding up nicely. I like the feel of the bone much better than plastic/delrin/whatever you want to call it. I carry it regularly, even though it's special to me and I'd seriously hate to lose it. I bought it because it was attractive to my eye, and I was sick of all the black tactical lockbacks I carried and saw carried in the Army. Now, I hardly carry one of those, but switch off between this Case and a couple other slipjoints.

I purchased this very same knife at Lowes hardware store locally in WPB, FL around 2001-2002 as I recall. It served me very well for about a two years until a friend of mine talked me out of it at a weak moment whilst he was applying much libation unto me..:D End result is he still has it and loves it probably more than I did. :) In fact, he mentions it and uses it every time we BBQ at his place..

I bought mine at Lowe's, too -- 2003, the date stamp is 2000. They were clearing out all the blue bone Case knives, on a serious sale. I was on leave from Afghanistan, on my way to Iraq, and just wanted something to carry that wasn't so... black and ugly.

I got mine for 15 dollars, IIRC, and I wish I'd bought more knives out of that case!! I love this knife, but I wish I'd gotten some of the other styles that are attractive to me now.

Thats to funny. I got mine at about 2/3'ds of the price so I did not do as well as you did on that particular one but I scored very well on some older Schrade sharpfingers fixed blades when they were closing those out.. Bought every one they had on that go round..:D

sixgunner455,
Just curious to know if you are back home or are you still finishing up your tour in Iraq?
