Nice!

If you can, please take some pictures when it arrives. Case knives almost always look better "in person." :-)

That one caught my eye as well when they first announced it. It's available in yeller too :)

Do show us pics when it comes in. Congrats. That looks like a winner.

Either they made an error in the description, or that is the weirdest "spey blade" I have ever seen.

Its a sheepspay foot.

In keeping with the markings on older Case spey blades, perhaps this one should be etched, 'For SHEEP Flesh Only'.

Edit: To the OP, it is a very attractive knife, BTW.

That's too cool, I have little use or need for a leather punch but I still see one of these stockmans in my future.

Cool knife, but why would they put a punch looking like that on their website?!?!

Your link is messed up. I do believe the post above me has the correct one. Nasty looking grind on that punch blade.

I received the knife a few days ago and I had a chance to play around with it. Here is my initial review.

Price including shipping was $58

Overall, I am satisfied with the knife. I love Case CV and this pattern is very comfortable in the pocket. I am a fan of the stockman and I think the punch is a good trade for the spey.

First, the bad. There are 3 defects with the knife. The first is an uneven grind on the clip. This can be remedied with sharpening. The second defect is a lack of positive snap when the punch fully opened. This may or may not improve with age. The last defect is a small gap in the bolster along the bottom of the knife. It is very tough to see and doesn't seem to effect operation.

Not really defects, but a general complaint was the excessive rub between the punch and the sheepsfoot. I had to do a bit of bending to get it to close easily, sometimes the punch would get hung up on the sheepsfoot if I didn't let it fully snap back into place. It seems to be fine now.

Onto the positive! No blade play, middle of the road snap which I like. The only walk and talk issue is with the punch, but I think that will get sorted out. Bolsters were nice and shiny and bone looks good and is flush and even on the sides.

At the end of the day, the only real issue is the small gap on the bolster evident on the bottom side. It is more of annoyance than a real issue. Also, the punch is much better ground than the one on the case website! Overall, for a $58 user knife in the awesome Case CV this is a good knife. Case did not hit this one out of the park, but it is a good user knife.

Pictures in the next post.

Pics. This is the knife as received. I have not sharpened or "patined" the blade yet. All the smudges are my fingerprints from handling the knife.

Note the tiny gap on the left hand side in the picture below.

Note the taper to the grind in the picture below.

When you compare the shots above and below you can also see that it is uneven from side to side. Again, nothing that can't be worked out on the stones, but included for the sake of a review.

For the punch to be safely used, it needs to have very positive snap to the open position. I would send it back to Case explaining the problems. All knives I have sent to them have come back with the problems solved!

I agree. I played around with the knife a bit. It does snap into place as positively as the other blades, it just doesn't really "click". The problem was more the lack of sound than positive engagement. I have a feeling there is some grit in there that is causing the problem. The tang of the blade is square and even from what I can see. I will try flushing it out with WD40.

Do that, and then wash the knife in hot water and dish detergent (like Dawn/Ivory Liquid) afterwards. If there is grit in the pivot (good possibility on new Case knives), the mineral oil left by the WD-40 might leave it that much more gummy, if it isn't completely flushed out. The soap & water bath should take care of that (exercise the joints while in the soapy water). Rinse it thoroughly in hot water, again exercising the joints. Then, after drying everything out, another tiny spritz of WD-40 into the joints to displace any remaining moisture.

Yep, that worked! Thanks!
