ALL,
I bought a Case cv stockman with a punch blade a while back. I normally season my blades or gun blue the cv blades to suit my taste. Well, to my surprise, noticed the the punch blade will not hold blue or season. My question is, Are the punch blades on these and the amber handled knives "Stainless", or do I have a fluke? Thanks in Advance

I don't own one but from what I have read in the past the punch blade is stainless, even though the other blades are CV.

^This. It's normal. There's no advantage in Case making them in both steels, as fine edge-holding isn't a priority with a punch blade anyway. They're typically not hardened to the same level as blades requiring very thin & stable slicing edges, so the steel type isn't a priority for a tool that'll be used for harsher tasks (punching holes in metal, digging, prying, etc). Corrosion-resistance still matters though, so stainless is the logical option for all.

I have a Case CV stockman with punch blade. Based on what I have exposed the punch to so far, it appears to be stainless.

Thanks!!!
Didn't know that, but makes sense.

So Much for thinking I had a 1 of a kind Case!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I guess I will have to keep buying many more until I get the One and Only! Lol

On the older Case punch blade stock knives (1981 and earlier), the punches were CV along with the blades. That made sense at that time since 80% or more of the Case pocket knife line was CV during those years (higher percentage the further back you go).

BTW, took a look at the punch on mine and noticed it is marked "SS". So there you go.
