Hi guys,Love this forum!

I've just noticed that my older cv case knives(1991 or so) seem to take a sharper edge, and more easily than my newer ones.I'm curious if this is just my imagination or if there steel has changed slightly over the years.

Thanks in advance,
Loto,

I'm sure someone will come along who actually knows something, but I do know that CV has not always been the same steel. What and when? No idea. Not much help, I know, but this should at least let you know that you aren't crazy.

my 80's CV cases do take a better edge than the newer ones, I think they aded more chromium content later down the road.

lotoblades,

When you say your older Case CV steel blades on your "1991 or so" are easier to sharpen then you newer CV knives, are all the knives in question actually marked "CV" or just the newer ones marked as such?.

I'll be very interested in this thread. Although I love the CV steel in my newer Case knives, I too have noticed a difference in sharpenability and edge retention compared to my older ones and I was wondering if it was my imagination as well.

The differences that some folks experience could be the edge angle, the heat treat on different batches of the same steel, the blade thickness and maybe some other variables that I have'nt thought of yet.

Sunnyd,my newer knives are definitly cv,some of the older ones arn't marked as such but rust quite easily and I just know they ain't true sharp, but are truly sharp!
Thanks guys for letting me know I'm not the only one that has noticed this, and If anyone has more information throw it out here!
