Hello and thanks for letting me in!

Wondering about the newer barnboard Case folders. The raindrop Damascus appears to be different from the Devin Thomas Damascus. Can anyone give me more insight on the latest steel?

Trying to track down the Thomas version of a stockman but didn't know if the new stuff was comparable?

Many thanks!

IIRC, Devin Thomas forges the damascus for Case(for some time now) out of 1075 and nickel.

edit - I just confirmed this with Devin Thomas damascus.

As of 2012 that was what I'd heard, 1075 and nickel by Rob Thomas. Also that it is tempered to the mid 50s.
I'd be interested to know if there have been changes. All the Case Damascus I have seems to be fairly consistent with the above information. I haven't bought anything new in a few years though.

I have 2 samples of current Burnt Barnboard series with Raindrop Damascus and have used one quite a bit in the last couple of weeks and I find it comparable if not better than CV. The only other Case Damascus I have to compare it to at the moment is from the 1989 Rogers Bone series and I prefer the newer one over it.

Thank you all very much gentlemen. I really love the look of the dammy and may have to take the jump.

Thanks for asking the question. Regardless of who's making the blades, Case's newer damascus has looked different to me as well-- at least in the few pictures I've seen so far, most of them stock photographs.

I'm now waiting on the barnwood sodbuster version, so I'm curious as well. I will post pics and an impression after I receive it.

Easy to misunderstand here on BF and I'm not being critical, but pertinux is a Lady. I met her at the GEC function, she's very nice.:)

Here is a side by side the peanut is a Devin Thomas and the sodbuster is the currant Devin Thomas, I thought Case was using Rob Thomas Damascus, but they are still using Devin's , it should be noted I re etched the peanut a few weeks ago, which would account for the contrast, the groupings in the pattern seems to be tighter on currant Damascus , but I assume, things will differ slightly from billet to to billet

In certain light it looks electric

I just talked to Devin, he has made the damascus for Case for a long time, sold them a thousand bars this year. Glad we have the correct info.
