Case Damascus question

Hi. I have been doing some carving lately and have found I really like the Case Seahorse Whittler. However, I like to carry CV knives and it's not offered on the Seahorse. I did find a Damascus Seahorse though. My question is:

Is the Case Damascus harder than the Case Stainless Steel? Is it an upgrade or a downgrade? I know it probably will not be up to par with the CV, but maybe it's better than the SS? Thanks.

I was going to get the Medium Congress in CV but the handle is the same leanth as my Medium Stockman. I like the extra 3/8" the Seahorse offers on the handle.

Can't answer your question about CV, but DANG that is pretty!

My best guess is that it has better edge retention than Tru-Sharp.

Also curious about your question. Those are simply beautiful knives, but I wouldn't want to go less than SS on performance.

I've used a Case damascus peanut as an EDC and been happy with it's performance. They sure are a pleasure to carry and I get a smile on my face whenever I go to use it. I believe there was a post not to long ago on this suject and there were some very informative responses. I'll see if I can find it.

Thanks for your posts guys. I hope the steel is better. The pictured kinfe is pretty for sure.

I've had a couple of raindrop damascus knives from case. I found they sharpen to be VERY sharp. I haven't used one enough to really test the edge retention.

But I will say. Usually if a knife will get really sharp, they stay sharp pretty well too. I did notice a little extra toothiness with the steel.

Thanks for the input slimshaneee. I am so close to buying one.... the price is steep though.

Damascus steel is nice to look at but from what i noticed its to chippy to be a carving steel if it was made to be a carving steel it would be available in chisels planes and all wood working tools. Think about carving as a knife you are going to wear the crap out of. im shure you can get anything sharp and a large stockman has your name on it. doesnt case sell a cv stockman that is 3 and 7/8 though in yellow.

That is some great input Spardoug. Being a carving knife it would have to be maluable (sp.) to a certian degree. I have the 3 3/8" CV Stockman, I just love the extra 3/8" you get with the Seahorse handle.
