hello all, im looking into buying a case knife and its blades are rain drop Damascus. is their Damascus any good? should i be aware of anything and treat it differently then my other 1095 blades? thank you!

Case has fine Damascus. The raindrop pattern is quite appealing to the eye. There isn't much difference in care but if you so choose just wipe the blade down with a cloth with a tad bit of oil on it to keep the blade in fantastic shape. You will not be disappointed in your investment.

Beautiful Damascus, as Robert said, just wipe the blade lightly with oil.

Edge retention is great. Mine isn't quite up to 1095 levels, but compensates by taking a very toothy and aggressive edge.

thank you all! i will be buying my first case knife with damascus this coming week if everything goes smoothly

I know I am in the minority here but Damascus never appealed to me until Gary posted his Case Peanut in a thread awhile back. That little knife was beautiful and I think it deserves being posted again here. How about posting it again if you don't mind Peregrin.

I used to collect Damascus bladed Case knives when they first came out in the 1990's (or 1989). I can only hope they've improved their heat treatment these days versus the ones they made back then. My stockman from back then has blades so soft, they're easier to file than annealed ATS-34- like in the low 40's Rc. I'm not even sure they were heat treated at all.

Your wish is my command, Randy!
I believe this is Thomas Raindrop Damascus, 1075/Nickel.

Is there a difference in the makeup of the 2 looks of Cases Damascus? One has the raindrop look and the other more wavy.
Will the Damascus patina like the case carbon?

Damascus is acid etched, essentially it is already patina'd. It will rust if not cared for, and if you remove the rust aggresively you'll remove the pattern as well. Then the only way to get it back is to acid etch again.
