Case Damascus?

I have just received a Case Damascus mini trapper with red bone handles.

Apart from a Union flag Spyderco Pride last month this is the first slip joint folder I have bought in many a long year.

It was not really sharp at all out of the box but less than 5 minutes on the sharpmaker sorted that out pretty well. The steel was flying off onto the stones so I guess the rockwell on these is not very high?

I have looked on Case's web site but can not find anything about their damscus blades at all.

Does anyone know what steels they use and what is the best way to stop it rusting? I use a Tuff cloth on all my other blades, is this sufficent for this ?

You could ask this question directly to Case on knifefourm.com

Most of the Damascus is from the old Parker knife Co.(I think)
Use tuff glide on all my carbon steel and damascus blades.Works well.

I'll check with Mike to make sure but I do know Case's damascus is made by another company not Case, I'll get ya more info on that, as far as taking care of it, flitz, or any metal polish will work just fine or oils like Tuf Glide ot miltec. and I have never picked up one of Case's damascus blades that was sharp out of the box, not in last 5 years anyway. Here is low down Mike gave me on the Case damascus:

case damascus is 512 layer....high carbon....
made in USA at old Fain Edwards plant as I recall...think it is Alabama, but not sure of the state...this plant was part of settlement package when Ken Griffey and others left case in the '80's....Griffey and two others created Bear Cutlery (MCG)...G being Griffey..

All I can squezzzze out of him
