Does anyone know much about it? Worth the extra money?

Does anyone have the metalurgical properties of Case True Sharp? CV ? Damascus?

Thank you for your time.

The damascus Case currently uses is made by Thomas Damascus and is by weight 95% 1075 carbon steel and 5% nickel in a raindrop pattern. Rob has been experimenting with CV and some of the new stuff might be CV and nickel. It is worth the extra money if you like it (how it looks, the fact it is made in the US by craftsmen, etc.).

Case Tru-Sharp has similar edge retention to 420HC (Except that Buck 420HC outperforms it by a goodly portion.) It is easy to sharpen and takes a very keen edge.

Case CV is a low alloy steel. (Carbon steel with controlled amounts of Vanadium and Chromium.) Case has never revealed the exact composition. Based on a comparison of its performance to that of 1095, I suspect Case CV to contain 0.7% Carbon. Case CV holds an edge better than Case Tru-Sharp (though not as well as Buck 420HC). I found it even easier to sharpen than Tru-Sharp.

For Case Damascus I have no information

Worth it yes! I think it is a bargain. Very nice and the knife seems a bit above the normal fit and finish too,

this is a new congress I just received. Really nice knife...

My damascus stockman isn't very good in the fit and finish category (scale mis-fit, clip and sheepsfoot blade connect and grind when opening, backspring proud when open...) but the damascus is ground thin, cuts well and has not rusted on me yet. But the finish and lack of response from Case when told of this issue is why they are NOT in my good books. Take this as you may.

I thought I asked these questions yesterday, but I cannot find the thread. What do you know about Case damascus? Worth the extra cost? What do you know of the metallurgy of Case damascus? Tru Sharp? CV ?

Thank you for your time.

Whoa! It's deja Vu all over again.

any info on the older case damascus? I have a 90 and a 89 mini trapper it doesn't have the raindrop pattern though.

IIRC it was a 512 layer Damascus made for Jim Parker and used in a lot of collaboration knives in the 80s some sold to Case, not sure of the comp though, I have a little Coke Bottle Case from that time frame, I use it all the time, it takes a great edge and holds it for a substantial time.

It does hold an edge, I found some non raindrop damascus at Shephard Hills, doesn't look the same , less layers maybe....

Damascus goes well with Peanuts. The two single blade peanuts on top are older ones with a different kind of damascus than the two blade peanuts on the bottom with the raindrop.
It gets sharp too. One of these bit me and drew a little blood while I was posing them for the picture.:D

Here's a stag & damascus Case Peanut I was fortunate enough to receive as a gift from my buddy Thomason:

I like the new damascus. It makes my toothpick prettier. :)
Got this one a few days ago. Haven't put it into rotation yet.

I've got a raindrop damascus Congress on the way. I am planning on using it. Hopefully it will hold up!
