Case decision...

Hi All,
I've been a lurker on this subforum for a while now.
I recently bought a case yellow handle peanut. At first I was disappointed in how small it was, but for the last two weeks, I have carried nothing else. It's easy to forget it's even there.
However, I am after something just a little bigger and have been considering the Case Mini Trapper in CV. While it's possibly a fraction on the large size, it looks close to ideal.

My two questions for those who have used it;
-Is it small enough for easy pocket carry (in a similar way to the peanut)
-Is the rear bolster rounded, or at a right angle, like on the peanut?

Any help or advice on finding my "perfect knife" is greatly appreciated!

Try Mini Copperhead that even comes with a Wharncliffe in some versions (Amber Bone I believe).

The CASE pen-knife should suit as well, that's a tidy small carry with rounded bolsters too.

Mini Trapper is quite a bit thicker than these 2 but still a superb EDC

Then the Medium Stockman is an ideal trouser inhabitant too. I don't like a large bulky knife for pocket use, many use a sheath for this but personally find that too time consuming. Check the CASE catalogue at their website. They sent me the paper version to the EU in the post & it's been a fine pre Christmas read!

Take a look at the pattern page on the Shepherd Hills site: http://www.casexx.com/PatternPageFH.asp -- it's a nice reference to what's available.

One of my favorite pocketable patterns is the 6208 "half whittler" -- 3 1/4", two blades - large clip and a nice sized pen, rounded bolsters, slim (one spring).

I often carry a Case yellow CV Pen 32087. It would probably be a good next step up in size from the peanut. The mini trapper looks like a good choice too.
The trapper will have two springs and the pen has only one and is therefore thinner. The mini trapper is only slightly longer.
Enjoy your search!

I'm very fond of the Case Gunstock pattern. It has a nice spearpoint blade and a small pen blade. There are two sizes; large goes at 3 3/4" closed and the small at 2 7/8" closed, same as the Peanut pattern. Probably something in the 3 1/4" to 3 1/2" may be what you are looking for and Case has several patterns in those sizes. Great, and informative link zerogee.

Mini Trapper yellow CV is the same size as a medium stockman. I have several of both. It has more of a square bolster compared to the peanut. Its a very pocketable and usable knife. I really think you would like it over the peanut.

That's exactly what happened to me with my Peanut, thought it was too small then ended up carrying it lots.

I love my Case Mini-Trappers, you would notice them more in the pocket than the peanut in light trousers, but not much, about the same weight as a med Stockman.
I'm pretty sure you'd like it if you bought one.

If we are talking about the same bolster...rounded
The bolster at the base of the blades is square though.

There is another option you might consider and that is a Slim-line Trapper.
Similar weight to the peanut as far as I can tell, but with a nice long blade and handle. keep it upright in the pocket and you'd not know it was there.
