Which do you folks like better and why? I am interested in the deep canyon chestnut, but I can't seem to find any pics of the backs of the knives. On the deep canyon chestnut, do the scales look similar on both sides or is it more like Case's stag offerings where one side tends to be different than the opposite side?

I've only seen a couple pictures of both sides of the Deep Canyon, but the ones I saw looked to match fairly close.

Hi Chris -

I will take pictures of my Case Deep Canyon Bone swayback this evening for you.

The scales are similar on both sides, but I will let you judge with pictures later.

I needed to get pictures of that knive anyway -

I have to plead ignorant to there being two diffent chestnut bones put out by Case. Until I see the difference for myself I'll have to be prejudice toward my canoe, and the scales look close to even to my eyes.....

Thats a great lookin Canoe Peter. I really like the Chestnut bone. IMHO, its the nicest looking scales they have come out with in years. They also have a smooth Chestnut bone

Here's my deep canyon chestnut bone SBJ, mark side:

I like both versions (this one and the CV jigged bone version) about equally. Both fine knives.

I have the trapper in deep canyon bone and I really like it.The coloring is even on both sides and its much thicker than the standard bone handles. It has really good grip because of the extra deep jigging.

Hi folks -

I have seen Ed's pictures above (awesome shots!) and that knife looks very close to my example.

Mine has a very "strawberry" coloration to it on the pivot end where the bone was polished down smooth - it is very nice but it was unexpected in a brown bone knife.

The example I have is one of the best examples of fit and finish I have on any traditional I own.

Pictures at 11 (or earlier lol).

Please put your pics up too. I would like to see yours because I have a mini copperhead in this bone on order. I may have to cancel though and try to find one elsewhere. I sure like my SBJ.

Hi guys -

I took these this evening - I still marvel at how nice this little guy is - the springs are dead flush on both blades in closed, open and at half stop. No gaps, beautifully polished. Just a beautiful knife.

That looks great. The lighting in your picture shows the jigging much better than my pictures. It does look a little "redder" than mine, but that may just be due to the differences in our lighting. They are great looking little jack knives for sure.

Hi guys -

Thanks Grim - I do like that Deep Canyon jigging!

Ed - I have my D40 cranked up on vivid - I love color in my pictures.

Your pictures are really more natural and my knife has the same "strawberry blush" look on the highly shaped (smooth) areas.

I am still working on my lighting and the white balance for my pictures.

There's also a smooth chestnut bone as well, so there's 3. The smooth chestnut bone is interesting. The dye brings out the "grain" of the bone and gives it an almost wood-like appearance. I'd take a picture of my 6318 in smooth chestnut bone, but I can't get it to show in the photos with my craptastic camera.

Here is some of that smooth chestnut bone on my Mini Copperlock:

Hi Stu -

Great pictures!

I see what Aaron is saying - especially in the second picture, that material looks like wood!

Additionally, your picture shows me that I am using way too much light.

Thanks for the shots -
