I ordered one of the new Case Desk Knives the other day, and it just arrived in the mail last night. The fit and finish of the knife are very nice, and the leather "desk sheath" is very well made. Still, I find myself rather disappointed in the knife, mainly due to the size.

If you look at the picture, you can see that the Desk Knife looks a lot like the Case Swayback Jack, with the main blade open. Both share a similar handle and blade shape. That's a good thing, as I think the Swayback Jack is a great little knife. The problem is the Desk Knife is also a little knife and only marginally larger than the SBJ, which is the smallest knife I carry on a regular basis. That means that most of the time, I'll have a larger knife in my pocket than is on my desk, which to my mind kind of makes the Desk Knife kind of pointless. The fact that the Desk Knife seems to be selling for $30+ more than the similar SBJ does not help, either.

I know they listed the length of the knife in the description on the Case website, but I guess I was just unconsciously expecting a larger blade. I suppose, too, that the Desk Knife is large enough for the sort of thing you would use a knife for at your desk (opening envelopes and packages, cutting tape, etc.) but I just wish it had been a bit larger. :o

Thanks for the review. I was excited when I first saw these announced a year or so ago, but have been less impressed with the specs and prices I've seen.

A friend gave me one of those a couple of months ago. Keep in mind the steel on it is 154CM which is a little tougher to work with than Case's CV or regular stainless. I have really enjoyed mine (keeping in mind it was a gift from a close friend ;)). My only disappointment was the edge, but it not take much time at all to get it sharp.

Oh, yes, its a very nice knife and a cool gift for a knife knut, I can't really fault anything about the materials, design or construction of the Desk Knife. If someone liked the design and did not have a problem with the size I would encourage them to buy it.

It's just my very personal opinion that I would have perferred a knife with about 2 inches more length, overall. ;)

Got mine several months ago. Fit and finish was very good! Edge that came on the knife was in the same league as a butter knife. :D

Little effort on a stone and strop. . . . .look out tape and envelopes!

I enjoy mine!

Bear in mind that it uses a tougher steel (a point already made here) and it comes with what I understand to be a very nice leather sheath.

Yup, I've made that mistake, more than once. :o

thx - cpr

I've been very impressed by the ones I've had the chance to handle and find the size well suited for the intended use:thumbup:

I like mine also. The factory edge mine came with was passable, better than my cv peanut. It's an excellent tool for its purpose, and the F&F is very good on it.
