My first post.

I just got this knife earlier this week. It didn't seem to come very sharp from the factory.

I tried to touch it up but it didn't seem too sharp when I finished with it, although I didn't spend too much time on it. What's the story on these knives? It's my first knife with a damascus blade, so I'm not too experienced with this steel. I'd appreciate any input.

Thanks,
Marco

It should be fairly easy to sharpen. It is carbon steel.
Case is not known for their sharpness out of the box.

Welcome macavada. I hope you enjoy this place and it's cast of characters at least as much as I do.

I have a stag trapper or two from the early late 80's (maybe early 90's). The Damascus that was used then was from the old Parker-Edwards factory if I am not mistaken. Those did not come out of the box very sharp either. In the case of those knives the Damascus and was not of very good quality. The etch process used was not to good either. The Damascus they are using now is much nicer, but I do not know the source. If you are planning to use it, just sharpen it up, oil it up and try not to keep it wet or sweaty for a long period of time. It should sharpen up pretty nicely as nifrand said.
