Case Entire Set

Now *there's* something I'd like to see! But I'd have to think it'd be nigh impossible to achieve. All the patterns in all the cover variations? Over the company's long history? That's many thousands of knives, I'm sure.

I'm still working on a complete John Coltrane discography, and he's been dead since 1967. But 'Trane was extremely prolific.

No. I meant like they come out with a new handle color/jigging all the pocketknives in that set.

You mean like, you collect all of the patterns in Chestnut Bone CV or something? Yes, there are some people who do that.

You might want to look into joining the Case Collector's Club - annual membership is $20. They have a private forum with a lot of knowledgeable members. http://www.wrcase.com/collectors_club/club_benefits/

I was a member for a couple of years when I was actively accumulating.

I never bought every pattern in a particular handle material because I don't necessarily like every pattern and wasn't about to buy a knife I didn't want just to complete a set.

Oh, OK. That makes a lot more sense. Yes, I'm sure there are fans of a pattern who'll collect all the variants. Or, conversely, all of the patterns with a given cover material. Case's chestnut bone is very popular. I've got three of those myself.

Case sells "Mint Sets" that are groups of knives with a specific theme, only sold in a set. The etches and handle materials specific only to that set. Mint Set Man (Bill?) used to buy them and break them up so that collectors who collect only a single pattern could get the special knives.

Anybody collect mint sets and want to show theirs? They are seriously expensive.

I bought these Chestnut CV knives from a guy who had a brick and mortar knife store and was going out of business. He had put this together his self to sell as a collectable in his store. I remember I gave him $150 for it and thought I had gotten a really good deal. I still have them and have never used them. I've thought about selling them here lately but not really made up my mind.

That for 150 and the Buck fixed blade for 10.... Can I go shopping with you some time?

I've thought of doing something similar but I doubt if I'll ever pursue it.

Awhile back I stumbled upon this Humpback Stockman and it gave me the idea to try and collect all of the Quality Test Run Case knives. I emailed Case about it and was told that they only used Teal Bone for the Quality Test Run knives and that the program only existed from 1997 through 2008. Teal Bone was also used on one SFO and some kids camp knives but aside from that it's exclusive to the Quality Test Run knives.

I thought it might be kind of neat to own all 12 of them. Then I realized that it might be pretty hard finding them because I've only ever seen one other one. A Teal Bone Mini Copperlock from the 1998 run. What I like about these is that there are no markings on the knife whatsoever to identify it as a QTR knife. Only the Teal Bone and the Certificate of Authenticity. And according to the paperwork, they are never sold by Case to the general public.

I probably won't pursue the idea of collecting all 12 but if I happen to stumble upon one of the other patterns from a different year I might snatch it up.

Only got one set from a while back, the 340 pattern Case Classic jumbo stockman.

So they made all these stockmans at one time? Kind of like they're doing the tribal locks now?

Very nice!!

I'm not sure this is a complete set, but it's a complete display. (Except for the little sign thingy at the top)

What Mark is showing is a "panel". When you go into a stocking Case dealer's showroom the Case Knives are usually grouped by a theme (most often handle color and shield type, etc.) I know a local Platinum Dealer that only sells some series by the Panel (could be six, eight, or ten knives). Tedder, you should try to find a stocking Case dealer to browse around in - try the Case website and search for dealers. There is one about an hour from me that has thousands of Case knives in stock. OH

Not all at once. Every month there was a new one released. Every one was a limited run. The abalone is 1 of 3. This was 1996 to 1997.

I count 13 months then. And one of three? That's like, unheard of that you were lucky enough to get one. Very impressive!!

Actually it was 11 months. The abalone was not part of the standard releases and I got an extra stag so I could have one to carry:)
I got the abalone from Kevin Pipes of SMKW. There were 3 abalone and 3 white pearl available at the time. The pearl was kinda dull, not so the abalone....
